I have been hunting for about 15 years and I have never shot at a spoonbill drake. I have killed plenty of hens. Yesterday a buddy and I killed four nice drakes. I am going to have one of them mounted as they are a very beautiful bird.

I saw about 15 Spoonies today with 4 drakes but, none of the drakes were as mature as yours. I currently have one at the taxidermist that I got late last year. Yes they are pretty. Congratulations.

Good work. I shot a limit of spoonie drakes several years back. Good looking smiley ducks.

Anyone have one mounted? Not sure how I want it posed. Scratching, sitting, flying or dead.

I had one mounted, but when I was at college, my parents new cat had a field day with 12 or so mounts. They were destroyed.

Nice, we mowed the spoonies this weekend too, shot a bunch of drakes but they were all little guys.

Everyone talks down on the spoonies.. I think they taste fine and the drakes look awsome.

the thing about them funny tasting livery ducks is that you gotta soak them to get the yuck out....I dont even eat a corn-fed mallard without soaking him at least overnight ...I like to get all that blood out of them....then cover up with spices or bbq sauce ...still havent tried duckeroni yet but really want to ...... great ducks by the way.... I would shoot them too if nothing more than for the oooo pretty birdie affect

After soaking to get the blood out i often soak the divers in some kind of alcohol. My fave is Cheep blackberry brandy for a couple of days mixed with a little BB jelly. Wrap in bacon and cook on foil over grill. Got that from a college buddy of mine.

I think the alcohol helps break down the meat and makes it tastier...

Im waiting to get about 10 more birds then I will tell you

I plan on filling every tray in my dehyrdator and making a ton of jerky for me and the dogs.

I've had coots before. One time they tasted great! i'd swear on my mothers eyes they tasted like mallard...
the second time when i made them for my girlfriend, now wife.... Like lover.

I don't know why they tasted so different. both came from the E wa and in similar areas... I think
alcohol brine solves many issues.
