Late Palouse Success
« on: November 17, 2011, 08:46:21 PM »
I will tell you right now i thought i was in pretty good shape for being 56 i found out this last weekend i was wrong. The day started feeling real good had a little snow on the ground first time to hunt this area with the white stuff on the ground. The wind was blowing strong making things real interesting trying not to give your self away. Started on the north side of the draw were four days before i had jumped up a shooter buck but never got off a shot only thing i found was a single doe then i decided to hike out off the bottom to get the wind in to my face this ended up be a long walk. when i was in the right spot i started to walk the top edge were it lips over they like to bed in this area with quick escape lanes down the draw well this netted nothing didnt see one deer so down to the bottom i go one more time this time i see four or five does and one spike. Well it was getting around noon so i grab a bite of lunch on the hill going over what i was going to do next.I decided to walk the bottom in a area i had not been this year well after a hour walking the bottom by the creek i was coming to the spot were i planned on hiking out of the bottom well as i get to the edge of the timber were it thins out there stands a buck the winds in my face and hes a little above me throw up the rifle i have a downed log across his chest i have to wait for him to clear the log  this seemed like it took for ever put the crosshairs on the chest and shoot and drill the the tree he is standing by i am waiting for him to take off he just stands there so jack in another round and shoot he goes down.Well i give him a few min. then decide to go see my deer take four or five steps up he comes and down towards the bottom he goes took a snap shot at him kicked myself doing that. So now i tell myself to slow down go check to make sure i had blood went to the spot were i shot him well i found good blood so start tracking the blood trail. I jump him one more time in the bottom i see him go up the hill on the the other side well i stop start glassing the hill i find were he has bedded down take off my pack frame and use it for a rest and shoot him in his bed  down for good after this shot then the fun begins i have been hunting by my self got the deer all boned out dark is setting fast get done throw the pack back on and i new i was in trouble my legs were all cramped up could hardly walk ended up having to hang the meat and get out of the bottom. Getting out with the head should have took about 40 min. or so it took me almost two hours got back to the truck well after dark caught hell from my wife for hunting by my self.Come back in on monday and got the meat out next year i will be in better shape for hunting season

Nice deer
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!
