so how many of you love to call, i mean really call alot ive heard people say dont call to much or why do you call so much  well because it works i cow call and bugle all the time and elk come in alot i dont always get a shot but they come in who else on here calles like the primos team      alot         even late season it works i just dont bugle in the late season

I can't call worth of chit, I use to mess around a little when the primos truth videos first came out, and I bought the terminator and would go play with the bulls up at My St Helens off the highway, but if I went to a elk calling seminar I'd be laughed out the building in a heart beat.  I modern hunt and this year however I went with my brother and his buddies Early archery and called for them.  I cow call fine, but bugle Hahaha, but I bugled a small 4 pt into one of his buddies and he stuck it.  That bull came screaming in from about 400 yards across a open clearcut and held up about a hundred yards out so I stepped back in the jackfurs and started raking branches with a stick and bugled and it came running right up between two shooters and that was all it took.  Maybe that bull had hearing problems, Idk but it got my blood pumping.  Can't wait to draw my modern bull permit, once I do I'm switching to archery.

I love to call, but that being said most the areas we hunt calling has not helped us much.

I love to call elk, I wont try to call a bull in inless A friend of mine or I have a bull tag , but i will cow talk a bunch when moving through the woods tom mask what i am.

ive screwed up calling too much before. only took one time to learn my lesson. less is more in my eyes, i just try to get them curious.

The reason why I Archery hunt is to Hunt Bulls in the Rut. Callin Bulls is Intense, I like to mix it up with my calling. Every Bull will respond to calls a different way, it can be hard to figure out. This Bull would not come in to a cow call, but some aggressive Buglin and tree raking did the trick.

Early Season - I call a lot once I get into close proximity of the bull (When Primetimes Outdoors 2011 hunts are ready watch Tyson and my elk hunts, I call a ton).  Every call I make has a purpose though and I don't just call to call.  Before I am working a bull it is location bugles from select vantage points.

Late Season - I don't call.  I feel the best chances are spot & stalk, ambush or still hunting.  I have messed around with lost calf and assembly mews but have found that these calls usually have a more negative impact than positive.

I am a muzzleloader and the area i hunt is 3point or better & cow. It usually has the bulls in my early hunt but nothing but cows for the late hunt. The area is small and thick so spot and stalk isnt much of an option. walking usually just jumps them and you never see them again. i have cow called in the past to get the cows out of the thick woods and into the small clearing but this year it doesnt seem to be working. What do you recommend?

   Had three bulls coming in and the one I harvested this year didn't come in to cow calling but when I changed it up and started racking and bugling that brought him stomping in.  Nothing like hearing screaming thoughout a valley to wake you up and get you pumped!

I love to get a response! Nothing puts a smile on my face like hearing an elk bugle, or cows chirp back, then come running in.

Oh, I also love to call NOT using a bugle like the rest of the people. Works great!

Never under estimate a good predator call.

I only bugle in the early season when the rut is in full swing. I sometimes cow call to locate or after you have located trying to get close enough for a shot. I especially like cow call when you get busted in the woods because it will slow them down. This past weekend a couple cows busted me and started to run away I did a cow calls and it stopped them dead in their tracks. They didn’t call back and they still turned and walked away but I got them to stop running which in my book was a win.

I use lost cow calls in the late season if I have been busted. It helps keep the cows close and I can locate them as well.

I have tried and tried to call.. I keep getting a wrong number, or number no longer in service answer....   

on a serious note, do not own a primos call.  I have a custom call by bearmanric, and love it.  I can get all the cow chirps and calls I want out of it.  It works awesome.

I just called in a bull the other day and my bro could not get a shot, elk will come in all year, they may not always call back but they still come in.

The100Road - That is a tough situation to hunt.  I am going to make the assumption that you are along the coast somewhere.  If so I would check cuts early in the morning and late at night.  Other than that if I knew where the elk were bedding or staying during the day I would get the wind right and slowly/quietly hunt towards them. 

If cow calling has worked in the past I would continue trying that tactic.

Ambush would also be effective in the situation you describe, but I don't have enough patience to sit still very long.

I hunt the puyallup unit on private land. it is very thick. i know where they bed but its very unlikly to sneak up on them. I probably would have to be about 10 yards away to see them. (lots of sticker bushes). Ive tried to ambush but never had any luck. cow calling gets them to come in but they wont come that extra 20 yards into the clearing where i can see them.
