Traditions "Evolution"
« on: October 30, 2011, 09:01:12 AM »
New guy here...I hunt Oregon for deer and elk...52 years old, been an elk hunter since I was 16. I hunt with Rifle, shotgun and bow and now want to hunt with a ML. I figure why not be proficient with all 4 ?
This is the best website I have found! and I think I have read every thread...what great reading and man have I learned a lot!
Bi mart has these rifles here for $179. Black synthetic and stainless inline in .50 legal for Oregon. Any one ever use a Traditions Evolution ? I am new to ML but thought I would start now that way I will be ready for next years season. I currently have 12 preference points for deer...should be able to draw a good tag here.
I was looking at the Traditions Vortek but I have read just too many negatives and a friend bought one and has had more than his fair share of troubles.
 Great to be here!!!

I shoot a camo & stainless Evolution.  It's a good, accurate gun.  I'm not to sure about the safety mechanism, though.  It hangs up in the brush, so you need to be checking it a lot.  Also i don't think a bolt action is practical at all for a muzzleloader.  Just more stuff to get gummed up.  The bolt adds a lot more maintenance keeping things clean.  I'm happy with the gun, though, don't get me wrong.  Just a few things I would change if I were to be looking to buy...

I have one in camo and black and really like it.  I haven't hunted much with it yet (just bought it earlier this year) but at 100 yards I can get 5 rounds   in less than a 2" group.  I was surprised at the accuracy of it.

I haven't owned a traditions but have owned several cva's.  Same gun same manufacturer.  They are made in spain and don't care for that to much.  I have recently purchase the knight disc extreme with the western conversion kit.  I love it.  It doesn't feel cheap like a cva or traditions.  It is a solid rifle.  You may want to look into the disc extreme or the bighorn.  You get what you pay for and I am a firm believer in that. that's just my  :twocents:

I've hunted with a camo/stainless version of this rifle and am very pleased with it.  I was disappointed with the quality of the stock, so out of boredom I bedded my action and filed the forend so it is free floating.  I also added Truglo sights (the rear sight has the loop).

I'll have to check out Tru Glow sights.  I'm not crazy about the Fire Sights.  They just look to damn big.

I just bought that gun last week, in the camo version. I dont have a lot of experience with it yet but it seems to shoot well. I added a williams peep sight, and really like that. $179 sounds real reasonable too. I paid $239.
