WOW!  I have been hunting the unit for over 30 years and live close by and pretty sure I could kill a cow but one day and out by noon?  It never ceases to amaze me of all the people that draw a tag for 520 and think they will just drive in, see elk all over, shoot and drive home.  I figure yelm is just under 2 hours to get home so I would expect pictures and a post before dark.  Good luck and I look forward to hearing how easy it was.

Thank you someone who thinks the way I do. Put in you time scout as much as possible and you will be successful.  Good luck and believe 50 out of two hundred is a good number. :yeah:

Here is my prediction out of 200 tags I say only 50 get filled? Just a prediction.  What do you think?

Mine and my Cousins will be 2 of them filled..... And thats true cause how many of these guys ended up getting a BULL during the regular season?

I called the hotline last night to take a look at scouting the area over the weekend and the recording didn't include the St. Helens tree farm. I know that during the regular season from September to November they provide general public access on the weekends. What do they offer in December does anyone know? :dunno:

Has anyone hunted the Winston in the snow? I am curious if they flood the pastures on private land. Hope not.

Let us know if you are able to access the tree farm. But last I heard from my cousin they were not allowing anyone up past the 3 mile marker on the 3000 rd and no one was allowed on the 19 mile rd. Until December 30th to set up camp for the January 1st hunt...

Just a Reminder,

Make sure you know were you are there is 300 acres of private property along SR 504 and the 2500 road ( eco park ) that does not allow hunting of any kind.  It is posted, please respect the signs.  And, like hunting, you will more than likely see elk on this property, But, Please Don't Shoot Them.

Thanks for reading this, good luck hunting.

That's way out of the Winston unit, by a couple of miles. If someone shoots an elk on that private property, they're going to have bigger problems than just a trespassing ticket, since they would be hunting in a closed unit (Margaret). I'd like to think that everyone with this elk permit will know the boundaries of the Winston unit better than that.
