blacktail late archery
« on: December 18, 2011, 09:29:19 PM »
I was just curious if anyone else has been seeing much, i've been all over hunting only public land and just have not been seeing the deer i have in the past for the late season, had a successful elk season with a bull but still looking to close the deal on a deer to feed the family of 5! Congrats to all the amazing bucks i've seen pictures of on here, some people had an incredible year harvesting animals and congratulations!! Happy holidays!

Hunted a TON this late season, 6 full days and 10 half days. Passed two spikes te first two days then things really shut down after that. I saw a total of 5 deer while hunting over those 16 days.

Typically I don't see a lot of deer hunting the vast majority of my time from stands. Coming and going in the middle of the day or in the dark.

I had my shot at and blew it

Not much activity.... the weather is too mild.  We need some big winds to push them out of their safe place.  I can imagine them now..... bedded in the thickest cover imaginable and waking up just to turn their head to the side to take a bite then drift back to sleep  :twocents:

I have been having a hard time finding some deer myself this late season.   I'm starting to get a little nervous about filling my tag this year.

Its coming down to the end and I still have my 2nd tag to fill.... Not seeing the numbers like I normally do at this time of year.   Not sure if its the mild weather or not, in years past I still saw plenty when the weather was mild... wonder if the hair loss is causing a big reduction of deer?

If you guys don't mind saying, what units are you hunting? I've been seeing plenty of deer... but I don't have a tag and the unit I've been in doesn't have a late archery season anyways, I realize the lack of pressure probably has a lot to do with it, but this area is strictly walk in and doesn't get much pressure anyways.

I passed on some deer while elk hunting the first two weekends and didnt hunt on the third weekend, but this last weekend I spent two days in a walk in only unit without seeing a deer.  I rattled one in but spooked it before it was in sight (only second time I have ever tried rattling and my second series of rattles spooked the deer) and spooked one other deer in the reprod and never saw it.  Pretty slow!  :o
