CONGRATS, from what I hear the unit is pretty heavily roaded and goes through great moose habitat.  I've heard of guys shooting them off the road in there, I'd scout adn find some good clearcuts and then hit it

Thanks ! That sounds to easy. I can have all the time off work I  need so I plan on spending lots of time scouting. But I think I'll cancel the early archery hunting in Oregon. A guy can only do so much at 67!
I went to Google Earth and checked out the Flowery Creek Rd area. Looks good.

As I said in another 49 degree thread, both Flowery Creek and Sand Canyon are areas I have seen many moose.  Especially all the way up and over the top of Sand Canyon.

Finding moose in that unit is a piece of cake. Get out the bino's and cruise the open areas at prime time. Get into practice calling. Alot of people hardly get off the road cause they get the moose to come to them. Even with limited mobility, you won't have any problem getting one.

Deer hunters can be a valuable asset.  If they know you are after moose, they will be extra eyes and let you know what they saw and where.
We did this for two successful hunters year before last and they were great guys.  They in turn shared where they had seen bucks which helpedus be succesful

Yes, 49 is the best area. I'm from Chewelah and have hunted in that area. Lots of moose. I've been putting in for 9 years and couldn't believe I drew.

Hunt the first 10 days of the season and you won't have to worry about any deer hunters. Plus the moose are in the rut then.

I might go with my bow at first and call. I moved away from there 3 1/2 years ago. 438 miles is a long drive to scout. So I'm taking the month of Oct. off work to hunt.

CONGRADULATIONS PA BEN!Welcome to the forum too.
We will be doing some scouting ahead, Probably in late September. Are there any camp grounds in the area or can we camp anywhere in the unit? Anyone know?
Thanks for the advice runningboard and Bobcat

WOKE the wife up this morning with  MOOSE Calling Practice!  HaH :cmp1: :cmp1: :cmp1:

Man, it is good to know that I am not the only one who has woke (or just startled) a family member when practicing calls. Elk bugles can REALLY wake up a family!! :yike:
One shot, one Deer. Two shots, maybe one Deer. Three shots, no Deer
