Here are some shots from the same location. The ones with red writing are from the D40. I like how the flash gives you color at night. I really don't see a $200 dollar difference here. I'd go for the $79 D40.

I will take a IR camera any day over a flash camera, when it comes to big bucks and bulls, last thing I need is a camera flashing at night everytime a bull comes to the wallow or a big buck on a trail, he will change his path instantly.

Good point Shane! Then maybe the I40 would do. I'm just thinking on public land I'd rather loose a D40 than the I60, but not at the expense of pulling a big bull or buck out of his habit.

Flash has never been an issue in my experience...
and you really cant beat the price of the d40 right now ( 79 bucks
) If it wasn't so close the the season I would go get a couple more

I don't worry about flash, I have had animals look right at my IR camera too? The option that is of greatest concern to me is battery life. Photo quality is nice, but isn't necessary.

Another reason is batt life I have both, the d40 lasts maybe a week with moderate activity, the I40 has been out since late May till present and i still have 92% batt life.
I have watched big whitetails steer clear of cameras after a few flashes, I am talking 5 1/2 yr and older bucks.

We are running about 50 cameras now and we have been running them since the 35mm and I have both ir and flash ones. We have done alot of research over the years on flash or not and the only thing ir's are good for in our opinion is surveillance on our gates for humans. The flash does not affect whitetails. We have over 100 hunters in our stands a year and they all say the same thing( They jump but don't leave) Heres a 6 !/2 year old deer that scored 182 and just showed up 3 days before this picture and we killed him the next day early in the afternoon. Now mulies might be different but it don't bug Whitetails.

Where are you finding the D40 for $79? I've been paying closer to $99 but would like to add a couple more to my arsenal.

Not going to argue you about it Joe, but I watched these 2 bucks 2 years apart from a distance and the effect the flash had on these 2 bucks.
