Might be a dumb question
« on: December 27, 2011, 10:16:26 AM »
Ok, I have a 3x9 scope on my yote rifle.  The other day I had three yotes at 150 yards.  I turned the power up from 3 to 9 and put the rifle on the sticks and looked through the scope.  Instead of nice vertical and horizontal lines I have a big X.   :bash:  WTH??  So if I turn the power up or down and go a little past the 3 or the 9, the crosshairs turn.  Is the scope busted or is something loose that I can fix?  Thanks for any help.

Think it's busted.  Is point of aim still the center of the X like it is when it's + or does it change it?  My brother has a scope that does exactly that but the point of aim is still the center of the cross hairs so he has left it alone and uses it just fine

My kneejerk reaction is that the scope is turning in the rings. Check the screws first.  :twocents:  :dunno:

It doesn't sound good, I would find a different scope.

Sounds like the crosshairs are turning with the power knob.  Send the scope back for a rebuild if it is worth it.  Otherwise, toss it and get a new one.  If it is doing that, who is to say the waterproofing is still good.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I have never heard of that happening. I definitely would not be using that scope anymore. What brand is it? I'd be checking into returning it for warranty work, or replacement, if it's an expensive scope. If it's a cheap scope, I'd probably throw it in the garbage.

:chuckle:  It's a cheap one, it'll go in the trash.  I couldn't see anything that needed tightening.  Thanks guys, it's not a big loss.  Thanks for the advice and information!

I had that happen to me once. I have a Pentax 3x9 on my AR. Damn thing would get more X like every shot. The kicker was I was shooting long range....500 yards...and the point of impact was staying right on. The fixed it up and it is still on the gun.
