Completely new to bear hunting.

I am a newb when it comes to bear. I would like to start. I am thinking Ill just start by scouting a deer area outside of sultan. What do I absolutely need to begin? Is mornings or nights better? Any info would be great. I read a little about calling but most likely I will be alone so I think I will skip that for now.

  A rifle, ammo, binoculars, and put your time in the woods looking.......and a hunting partner to help pack it out as quickly as possible since the weather will likely be warm.

Everything that Curly said, and I would add a predator call. Even if you don't set up and call it can come in handy. Say you see a bear just as it is heading into the thick stuff or over a ridge, you can at least call a couple times to see if you can get the shot. Another good time is when you are getting ready to leave a feeding area. Call for a few minutes before you leave. You never know what will show.

Thats a good area to hunt, you can get back and away from people if you dont mind a few miles of hiking.

I agree you a good pair of binos and good bullets. I would recomend noslers or barnes x triple shocks if you can get them to shoot well. If your going to be around highway two I would go into a wilderness area and a two or three day trip. A call isn't necessary and extra weight if your doing a backpack hunt. Find berries and you'll find bears. We don't start hunting them till september so they have better hides. In september the bears are out all day feeding but the night seems to be a little better. The farther you get off the roads or into wilderness the better chance you'll have. Good luck

Thanks a lot guys. I will be armed with a .270 and my camera. If its too hot And Im alone and too far back Ill definetly shoot my panasonic and not the mauser! Thanks for the Info. And TY edmonds for the pm! I just wanna get out in da woods!

 A .270n Win is a great choice.  I use it for my black bear hunts along with 130 gr Barnes Triple Shock-X bullets.  You can handload them or by factory loads from Federal.
