Anyone have a suppressor in Thurston Co.?
« on: January 13, 2012, 01:24:49 PM »
I have been looking into getting my first suppressor. I am wondering if I will have any problems getting Thurston Co. Sherrif to sign the Form 4. I dont know how much it would cost to get a trust set up instead. Ive been looking at the Liberty Constitution take apart .223 can, so I could use my ciener .22 conversion with it on my AR and then be able to clean the rimfire crud outta there. The can costs $550 plus the $200 stamp which is more than my AR cost lol, and then add a ssar15 stock for 350 Im lookin at a $2k setup, so if I dont have to use a trust I wont. Anyone have any recent experience getting Thurston Co. CLEO to signoff? Im also working on a .300 blackout upper so I might be wanting a .30cal suppressor too.. Expensive hobby

Don't know much about the TCSO signing off on suppressors, but I have shot a few of them. In the .223 AR15 actions, you still get a lot of clattering around from the action as well as the sonic boom of the bullet. If your looking at doing predator calling and want real stealth, go to a subsonic bolt action gun, then put a can on it. Your 300 Whisper/.308x221/300 bk round does pretty well subsonic for noise in a bolt gun; ditto the 45acp.

If the TCSO does not give you a pass, you can always start up a "suppressor trust" and go that route. No Sheriff's signature necessary, but it will take you an attorney to set it up.

Keep us posted.

about how much could I expect to pay an attorney to set up a trust? I do realize the AR platform will have more bolt clatter but having a suppressor will be more of a cool thing then me wanting to be stealthy. it would be nice to have one of those model 7's in .300 blackout that are integrally suppressed. that would be pretty stealthy

If you shoot rimfire through a centerfire can, you can just shoot centerfire through it afterwards and the gases will clean it out. I have an AAC SDN6 in .30 cal and I use it for everything from 22 long rifle up to 30-06.

There isn't anyone that will sign off for a suppressor in Thurston, (or any other county on the west side, that I know of).

Here is an attorney who specializes in trusts and other gun related issues.  www.nwgunlawgroup.com
You can do a trust for $125
You can also get a trust set up for nothing, some of the gun shops offer to fill the paperwork out for you, when you buy a suppressor. They are generally ok for you, BUT If something happens to you there could be issues for your family if you have one of these "home grown trusts".

 Go get one!!

Is the tax stamp a per silencer tax or a per user? Buy the tax stamp and own 2-3 silencers?
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Rumor has it that the CLEO requirement will be going away.  All the guys that I have been transferring them to are just setting up trusts.  One was even a LEO, but lived in a different county and the CLEO wouldn't sign off on it.

On AR's if you turn the gas system down they can get to 22LR noise levels.  If you shoot them with the gas all the way on, its not that much of a noise reduction.  Have built severel SBR 300 Blackouts for out of state customers, and they are just fun as hell.  I have suppressors on all my bolt guns....basically brings them down to 22LR level as well and take out any recoil.  Coyotes in the open country are really gun to hunt with suppressors!

Wow, tagging this thread for later. I didn't realize a trust could be setup so inexpensively. I was thinking it was like $500-1000 or something. Anyone know if a trust could be setup with my son's godfather on it so that if anything happened to me before my son is old enough that any NFA items could go to him to hold for my son?

A good trust costs $500.00

Dennis Brislawn is the guy to go with for a trust for sure. I had one, and had Dennis re-write it because they were a ton of things in it that I could get in trouble for if someone wanted to be a stickler.
