It is because when the bucks are in hard antler it is the fall and they are an additional 6 months in age.  When you live only a few years .5 makes a difference.  As far as humans, I hate it when people refer to their kids as being "26 months" etc!

Big difference...... Think of shooting a deer that is half a year old..... Then think of shooting a deer that is 1 1/2 years old...

half year old is a yearling to me, still dont see the reason but to each his own. Guess it goes into the same category of counting eye guards  :chuckle:
