For the price they are great!  They will work.......(i got one) but you might double your catch rate with a lami or loomis.

Im pretty sure i was drooling the whole time i got to try out a lamiglass, I casted to the same spot i had been casting for the last hour and was really amazed at the diffrence i was feeling on the bottom!!

How exactly would a lamiglass or loomis double your catch rate?  I caught an 8 foot sturgeon off the dock below beacon rock with a 12 foot ugly stick and that pole was bent nearly in half under the dock.  Don't think you can bend a lamiglass under the dock without something giving.  When it broke, sure they'd replace it, but I don't think it would catch more fish.

Knee jerk response when I read the post.  I could see drifting for steelhead with a lamiglass would improve catch rate.  I have an ultralight ugly stick (darn sensitive) that I use for stocked trout.  My bass rods are all ugly sticks.  My Point Wilson Dart/Buzz bomb casting rod is a 10 foot ugly stick.  Catfishing rods, would not use anything but an ugly stick.

"it's the indian, not the arrow" holds true in many places, especially in fishing rods.

i feel there's sort of a curve to things.  up to about 100 bucks, things get drastically better in terms of quality.  after that, quality still improves but "bang for your buck" goes out the window.  buying an ultra-high modulus rod is not gonna make you a better fisherman.  but feel better in your hand, and be more enjoyable to fish with?  definitely!

for the record, most of my rods are built from blanks that i pick up on sale at the online rod building outlets, and anglers workshop.  i can build a rod that looks and fishes nicer than anything you'll find on a rod rack at 1/3 the price in most cases.  much more satisfying catching fish on rods i build myself.

Yea,  I would love to start making some rods and customized them to the colors I want.  Seems like a process that there is plenty of training upon and alot of companies selling materials to start.  Maybe one of these days.

Cohoho, Its not too difficult to get started doing and supplies are relatively minimal. My Dad tought me how to do it when I was in high school. Ive done 6 or 7 fly rods and a few spinning rods. The work is well worth the reward and its an easy project to work on here and there.

my last 9' 4wt fly rod took me probably had 20 hours into it. Thats partially because I would just work on it 30 minutes here and there. Also each eye had three different colors and a top and bottom wrap. Ive done some 1 piece bass rods in less than 5 hours. All depends on getting used to your equipment and how much detail you want to have.

the first couple rods i built took me the course of a week or two, of course, i'd get frustrated or tired after wrapping a guide or two and put it on the back burner for a while.

now i'll usually build them over a couple days, first day i ream and glue the handles, then next day i'll lay out the guides and start wrapping(if it's a shorter rod i'll just wrap it all in one shot), then depending on what i want it to look like, apply a couple coats of color preserver(i usually allow a day between coats and a few days before finishing), then the finish.  sounds more complicated than it is, the last several rods i built i didn't even use color preserver.

I have a rod that was built for me a pacific bay blank 9ft medium action and I love it!! I like it better than my loomis for fishing lower water
