Reezen 6.5? or z7 extreme
« on: January 24, 2012, 09:44:14 PM »
Anybody have these bows? Pros and cons? Having trouble with deciding on one, need to go shoot them, but what do you think? The only reason i dont buy the z7 extreme now is because of price... Is it worth the extra $

I had the Reezen 6.5.  I sold it and went with the Bowtech Destroyer 350.  I like that bow a lot better.  Less hand torque.
Cut em!

The negatives im hearing about the reezen 6.5 is draw cycle and vibration. I am willing to give up a little cause it is one of the fastest bows ever, but is it enough to not buy it? Gotta find some where near ellensburg to shoot one.

The 6.5 is one of the worst vibrating bows I have ever shot! I would hands down go to the z7 of the 2.

One of the fastest bows ever?  There are a good number of bows out there faster that will shoot one heck of a lot better.  I expect there is a Reezen Mathews no longer makes that bow.  I'm not a big fan of the Z7 either, but I would take that any day over the Reezen.  If the Reezen was free I'd still choose the Z7.

Id get the Z7 Magnum . I have a Reezen and the vibration isnt bad at all unless you take out the dampening weight that all mathews now come with . Its all about what is comfortable to you. I got my wife the Z7 Magnum and she uped her bow speed with her hunting arrows 30 fps, she only has a 25 inch draw length. Very comfortable bow and smooth draw cycle. You just need to shoot a bunch of bows yourself and see what YOU like. Dont go off what anyone else says.

Gotta shoot them side by side!   If you plan to use it for 4-6 seasons price should be your last deciding point.
Old enough to know better.
Young enough to go for it.

I'm glad you like your Reezen.  If it's good for you and you like it who am I to say otherwise.  I usually keep opinions to myself unless I've spent some time shooting a bow.  One of the fun things about my job is I get to shoot almost everything that comes out.  January and February I usually have at least a half dozen of the latest and greatest for that year.  I shoot them all and start weeding them down until I have the bow I shoot and like best before spring bear season in BC is a week away.  I really tried to give the Reezen a chance, and I must admit I shot it well.  But there was not one thing about it I liked better than any of the other bows I shot that year.  They sent me "New Improved" weights for the dampeners and it did make a difference.  Just not enough for me to enjoy shooting it.  Not sure I have ever disliked a bow in that price catagory more.

What floats my boat doesn't mean it won't float yours.  Heck, none of my hunting partners shoot the same bow as I do.  Perhaps that's because they get all my rejects for free :chuckle:  But, if they all thought the way I do I'm sure we'd all shoot the same thing sooner or later.

RADSAV,
It sounds like you have had a chance to try them all. You would have a much better perspective than I would. I probally have no idea what I am missing.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss!  I shot the same old Hoyt bow for some 12-15 years.  The vast majority of the animals I've taken fell victim to it.  And when the yoke system finally failed it was a seriously depressing day.  Getting ready for the hunt was simple and trouble free.  Fletch a dozen arrows and go...no worries.

Last year was a nightmare deciding which bow to take to NWT.  The new Invasion and the Bear Assault were in a battle.  One (the Invasion) was a bow I had been waiting for a long time to come to market.  Had almost everything I was wanting in a bow for some time.  The other was this goofy little single cam bow that represented almost nothing I would design in a bow for myself except shootability.  Two days before the trip I finally said to myself, "Which ever shoots 5 broadhead tipped arrows at 100 yards best is the one I'm going to take."  When the Assault grouped all five in a six inch circle with three of those close enough to cut fletching I went with it.  That's MUCH better than I can see.  And one heck of a lot better than I can usually shoot.  I'd had a few of those days with the Assault and none with the Invasion.  Was a good decision as I went 100% in 2011.

Thats funny  :chuckle:

I know even when people test bows and give there own opinion its not always what is best , just best to them. I planned on buying a different brand bow when I got the Reezen and shot a bunch of bows, like 8 different ones. I liked the Reezen over all of them but vibration didnt bug me any and I liked the draw cycle better then the other bows. I knowe guys that couldnt stand the draw cycle on the reezen  and I just couldnt understand why  :chuckle: I have to say out of everything out there, buying a bow is much like buying a pair of boots. What may be comfortable to one guy is totally the opposite for the other

As all know I am a archery freak. I think I am still at 19 bows with 20 and 21 in the works. I have owned atleast 60 bows and try to shoot all the new bows each year. I own a lot of different brands for many reasons. I only hunt with my pse it's what fits me best and has out preformed all the other bows I have shot it next to "for me" Plus being one of the fastest bows and me shooting between 80-83lbs it smashes a lot of critters
