helicopter horn hunting

What? Would u believe that some one is hunting horns from a helicopter? Well not really hunting but getting dropped off on top of ridges saw it happen with my own eyes 2day and really couldnt believe wat i was seeing!  it landed about 200 yds from one of the biggest bucks ive been watching witch still has both horns. WoW ok

Is there really that much money in shed antlers? If so I think it's about time they make it illegal to sell them. It just doesn't seem right what some people are willing to do for a few shed antlers.

Well this will probably trigger some kind of legislation against shed hunting in winter feeding areas as this is the things that certainly stress out the animals

I was about to ask in another thread, but figure this one will work.  Is that what so much of this shed collecting is about?  Is it for the markets of lamps/chandeliers/knife handles?
I find sheds, and just haven't really thought of keeping them.  Most are worn already, and I usually just try to break them up because the small animals eat them for minerals.  But if there's that much, maybe I should keep a few...

Are you sure he was shed hunting? Thats crazy. Shed antlers arent worth that much money. A local buyer I know of offers $8 lb for nice brown antler.

and I thought the guy sprinting across the hillside to beat me to a shed last week was ridiculous.  How are you sure he was shed hunting? not saying he wasnt, just curious.

Shed hunting or even entering Oak Creek is already illegal but Larry Gross has been caught a couple times with tons of sheds and basically nothing happens to him.  So while it is on the books the fines are pathetic and the money for sheds is pretty good.

Helicopter shed hunting is actually pretty common from what I've read and heard, especially in the southwest. AZ, NM. Before the economy crashed, elk antlers were going for 16-18$/lb. Even a decent 6 point 300 class weighs right around 10 lbs.I have heard of guys buying brand new quads, taking them down to Colorado (Meeker to be specific) and paying off their quads and the trip in a week of shed hunting. It is sickening. I could never sell any of mine. You could point each shed out and I could take you to the exact spot I found it and relive the day.
