Which arrow? Beman ICS 300 vs Easton ST Epic 300
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:08:20 PM »
Looking at getting new arrows as my current ones are marginally not stiff enough for my new bow.  Any preferences and reasons for them?  Thanks.

6 of us shoot the st epic and like them. Cabelas had a dozen for 59.99 last week.  I cannot justify spending over a 100 bucks on arrows when I get great results with the epics  :twocents:

Really?  Everyone still seems to have them.

Cabelas doesn't have the 300 spine that I need.

I shot the Beman ICS and did well with them.  Switched to the Beman MFX 300's (was down to just a couple of arrows and needed to fill my quiver for hunting season and the MFX were on the shelf at the local sporting goods store) and still shoot well, but now I get better (deeper in the targets) penetration (narrower diameter).  I personally don't think there is a big difference in accuracy as long as you have the correct spine matched with appropriately weighted points, no matter what arrow you choose.  Whatever you choose, you are likely to stick with it, just because you don't want half the arrows you are shooting for target practice to be a different brand, and you will likely want the same ones for your hunting arrows.

I've been shooting the carbon hunters from cabelas 65/80 with a 340 spine.  These worked really well with my old Golden Eagle but are a little light spined for the new Bowtech Invasion.  I had them cut as short as they would go to stiffen them for this last season but would like to increase my draw weight over the spring and summer and will need a heavier spined (300) arrow.

Thanks for the input so far.

Look at the goldtip 7595.  Its a good arrow for the money.

Found a good deal on some Epic shafts, $69 with shipping.

I'll see how they shoot, and if I like them, I'll order some more for future use.

Thanks again.

Goldtip 7595s are also a .340 spine.  If he's looking for stiffer, he'll have to look at something besides GT.

Lokidog,

What weight broadheads are you shooting that .340 isn't enough?  Draw weight?

Bowtech Invasion, 65lb now but want to try to get to 70.  According to Todd's software I'd be better off with a .300 spine at 65 lb and my previous arrows wouldn't be good at 70.

It's surprising to me that .340 isn't stiff enough, even with a dual cam bow.  I shoot a Mathews Q2 at 65 pounds, with a 125 grain broadhead and 29 inch draw.  I've never had tuning issues with Goldtip or Carbon Techs, both at .340 spine.

Good luck.

29 1/2" draw length.  Just know what the shop said and what Todd's software indicated.   :dunno:
