Which lenses are better
« on: February 10, 2012, 02:55:01 PM »
Hey everyone I just purchased a new video camera and am starting to video all of my hunts and I was wondering which lenses would be better for filming them, I'm not sure what the telephoto vs the wide lenses differences are. I bought the sony HDR-CX160, any information helps... thanks

So your question is?

Telephoto is for getting pictures of things farther away, wide angle is for pictures up close where you want more to be in the field of view.  Wide angle tends to distort things at the edges like making straight lines into curves.  You might use one of these to shoot yourself taking a shot.  The telephoto would be used to show the antlers on a deer sneaking through the brush.  I think the more it is zoomed in, the less your depth of field will be (the area in focus).

I am sure there are more informed folks to answer your question but maybe ask a more clear question.

Good luck.

Loki Explained it pretty well.

I would say you arent going to want to use the wide angle or 2X Telephoto lense for 95% of all your shots.

The Camera already has a 30X optical zoom on it so putting the Doubler on it would probably be major over kill for any hunting footage.

Like Loki said the Wide angle lense will Distort the edges of the footage so unless you have a situation where you know you need it (in the truck or a ground blind) I wouldnt want to be screwing up good footage with it :twocents:
