Packing your stuff with you (Question) Shooting sticks too
« on: February 13, 2012, 02:19:22 PM »
What are you guys using to pack your stuff with you out on hunts?

Right now I use a coyote tan voodoo tactical backpack to haul my call, decoy, rangefinder, etc......

I was thinking a foxpro furtaker vest, or a turkey vest would be a good option for me. I wanted more mobility, but still want all my crap with me.

Also, what do you guys like to use for shooting sticks? Bipod on gun? Bog Pod tripod? SHooting Sling etc......? Also, why?

I carry everything in. Rite now I'm using hand calls, so I pack everything into my pants pockets (6pockets). Range Finder/ 3 diffternt howlers/ 4 diffrent distress calls/ sqeeker/ keys/ phone/ wallet / permits. Bino's around my neck.   Gun has BiPod mounted on it, and a sling.  All I have to carry in my hand, is my MoJo Critter.

I have been thinking of getting a small seat, but rite now I'm fine with sitting on the ground.

I use to run Harris pods on all my guns. The only thing I hated was it never seemed I could get my sights level without tweaking and torquing the gun. So I have since switched to a lot of stony point sticks like the pole cat series. I can adjust them to any shooting situation I might find myself in. Even in a snap shot, with the gun not attached to the stick I can turn it and level the sights without tweaking on the gun.

I just Carry one of my hunting packs most times I have a lot of extra gear that most people won't take. Even more so when I have clients and I am packing there water food and extras like a first aid kit.

I have a cushion with a nylon loop handle on it. I put the handle through my belt, and just sit down on it when I get to my stand. I got the cushion at the sporting good store.

For most shooters, prone is by far the most stable.  Harris bipods work well if you can shoot prone.

When I can't shoot prone I've been using a Bog-POD tripod recently.  Look it up at Cabelas or another shooting supply source.

I've tried free standing monopods and free standing bipods.  I have found they are not nearly as stable and thus accurate for me as tripods.  Your mileage may vary.  If you can, try some actual shooting with various models and find out for yourself what helps, and what doesn't.

I've tried all sorts of contrivances to carry my stuff, and have settled on a hunting-type camo back/daypack.  I clamp a bipod on the gun, put a couple of calls on my neck on lanyards, sling the pack on, grab my telescoping monopod and I'm off.  Unless I can stob the monopod into the ground or snow, it's pretty much useless as a gun rest, but it makes a good walking stick, and the yoke turns off to use it to get my decoy up above the brush.  I gave up on carrying binoculars most of the time, because several times I spotted coyotes with the binocs, and by the time I got the gun and scope into position, the critter was gone.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I have a dedicated pack for yote hunting.  It has my wiggler, foxpro, extra batteries.  I also have a butt pad and a mouth call.

Nimrod Back Scabbard.  Makes coverring alot of miles easy and works well on skis and mountian bike.  I have my stool decoy, shooting sticks, water bottle, spare calls etc in it.  Everything is together and just hang it on a hook in the van between hunting places.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I've never carried shooting stix!   Just something else to carry.

I  use a camelback and carry all sorts of stuff but the first ad kit and survival is the reason I back around that back pack. I will walk a long way off from my truck normal when calling I dont think I walk under 2 miles when I park and call, it rare that ill just park and make one stand then drive some where else.

After using no stick then using them Im hook there, Ive recently started using the cabelas walking stick with the gun rest on it. I dont have to try and move both legs when a coyot comes in from a un expected angle. which is less noise and movment on the stand

I use my Kifaru spikecamp almost all the time.  with the built in seat/carry option you don't have to set on wet ground and have a backrest.  I am going to have quiet hide built me a holster for my contender that will ride on one side of the pack and a holster for lack of a better word for the other side that will hold my bog pod tripod.  I am going to send my pack to him so he can match up the straps and buckles match up to what he is making.  it is a little too much pack for quick stands but the pack shelf makes up for that on the way out!

Well I bought the primos trigger stick short bipod, and a m1907 numbered shooting sling. We will se what I can do with that.

Now I have 5 slings, a bog pod tripod, 2 shooting stix bipods, and 2 gun mounted harris bipods. Geez! :bash:
