Help me purchase a new knife
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:26:52 AM »
What I want:

1.  Drop point
2.  Blade length 4" ideal but consider any from 3.25 to 4"
3.  Fixed with full tang
4.  Stainless steel
5.  Ability to resharpen if needed in the backcountry without having to carry a heavy diamond stone
6.  $100 or less price range

Any ideas that fit these requirements?

Get in touch with rainshadow1. He makes some awesome knives. Look in the sponsor section and you can see some of his work.

I really like the outdoor edge swing blade I was given.   I'm not sure if its what your looking for but it is a great knife for me.  The gut hook on it is awesome.

Not a fixed blade, I love my havalon...

I have a havalon and like it but I want a sturdy fixed blade to accompany it for those more demanding camp chores, etc.

Check out Helle knives...
After skinning out an Elk it was still as sharp as when I started.   Laminated blades made in Norway

I've got the Fjelkniv  if memory serves....   prices 70-85

You should contact Steve @ Rainshadow1 and ask him to build you a one of a kind knife to your likes and design. You won't be sorry.  He is a Sponsor on this site.

I agree with Rainshadow building excellent knives.  To support a supporter is nice also.  If you chose to go with a different knife, I'd also recommend the swing blade.  Great design, and if it weren't for my Havalon, that would be the main knife I'd pack.  Best skinning hook "type" design out there by a landslide. :twocents:

Outdoor edge   I skinned and elk and 3 deer last year and didn't touch the sharpener until I was halfway through the 3rd deer. Nice knifes that are are priced pretty low for the quality

I looked at going the custom route but decided on the KOA alpha wolf.  I got in the mail this week and it is a very well made knife.  Not as nice as the custom route but it will be on my pack belt for my backcountry adventures.  Thanks all!
