I didn't say they weren't hunting in the area just saying there are other roads into that area besides the ones that are closed.  It is trespassing if they were hunting on private property.  Again I'm more concerned if they were Yakama or not.

There is no way to know were they are from. There trucks were seen leaving the end of maloy rd area with animals in the back of there trucks. For what I understand, there were some great bull elk in the back of there truck, and there were different trucks seen on more then one occasion.

Shooting WINTERING animals of anyvkind should be POACHING.  Man we sure need to look at the laws in this state.
This is absolutely complete crap. We fight all year long to preserve these animals, then winter comes and people drive up there and shoot them? WTF?  I have had about enough of hearing this crap...

It ain't fair one *censored* bit. I don't care what anyone thinks. Its plain WRONG
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

I have hunted that area for years. I know that the rancher, triple B ranch has keys for the yellow gate at the fence line and the roads open up April 1. Sounds like that's why there aren't any elk in there anymore pretty much like the Colockum area.

Closure on Maloy Rd., update. Any and all that use this area should be up in arms and need to get involved trying to get the state to get the essment signed again with NEW land owner to reopen the Maloy road.
Yes, the Bass ranch sold and the new guy has closed the gate, also Coffen's have closed his land to the gate. The DNR is working on the essment thru the land, but due to some threats made on the new land owner the deal with DNR is off the table.
Some Rocky Mountain Elk members are organizing to try to put pressure on to get the gates open by this falls hunting season.
So, if you are interested in getting involved with our group please contact me, i will post updates as I get them. firefighter49

Any new news on what's going on with getting Malay rd opened back up or a alternative option to get people with trailers and motorhomes back to BBQ Flats area?

Closed and I believe it's not going to reopen. 1701 should be open long windy road just don't get caught up there with a trailer when the snow starts to fly, heard it was a mess last elk season. The Jones rd should be open aswell but gets pretty rough up there for a trailer.

Still logging, still burning, still loaded with guys on atv's, motorcycles, jeeps, you name it. I had a cow tag for this area and after three days i coudnt deal with it, just wasnt fun.  I had never hunted eastside for elk, and definitely wont put in for this hunt again.  It amazed me how many camps were set up right in the middle of where elk had been living 3 days before the season started.  Oh well live and learn.  Oh and the best part, you drive down a road that hasnt been maintained in over a decade and you see the "Discover Pass Required" sign, what a joke.

Yeah I was there on 1701 early Friday morning before the opener. Stuck behind and watching a bunch of knuckleheads with bald tires, 2WD and no chains trying to get up 1701, pulling all manner of trailers and such. Comical, but gave me time to chain up. They should close a lot more side roads during the Season. Its Elk season not 4x4 hillbilly deluxe mud boggin season. :chuckle:

I heard that work to reopen Rock Creek (1702) was stopped because of no inspectors due to the government shutdown.   Anyone know if that's true.  Originally I believe it was supposed to open before modern season.

He got a deer after spending all day walking and chasing bugling bulls in amother area.  Just couldn't get close enough to close the deal and the weather wasn't helping.  Ended on a high note and it was worth it in the end.
