Glasply boats will live to fight another day, and are going back into production

According to that article Northern Marine Group, a builder of world class ocean crusing yachts, has purchased the rights to the glasply name, and the molds, and are planning on putting glasply back into production at thier top of the line manufacturing facility in Anacortes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am overly excited about this because 1) i think glasplys are some of the best boats on the water despite ther age, 2) i live in anacortes, so that means the local economy is picking back up, and 3) i love my glasply, and kinda has me thinking it might get the value of my boat up

Awesome!   Let's hope that they stick with their tradition of quality and not go the route of cutting corners and crappy workmanship that Bayliner did.  EIt will be nice to see a few more jobs added to the area!

In 22 years of running charter boats in Alaska I have operated 5 brands of fiberglass boats and 2 aluminum, of the glass  boats the Glasply was far and away my favorite and was easily the most solid, seaworthy boat of the bunch. I would love to own a 21'-22' Glasply.

THIS IS HORRIBLE NEWS! I talked the wife into letting me get a boat but I decided not to since I was dead set on their lines and I don't have enough experience to buy one and do all the maintenance myself especially for such an old boat. My wallet is in panic mode now. Thanks.

Thanks, Jeepster! Instant smile over here. My dad's '86 blue 18' o/b runabout was one of the last out of the Marysville factory. It was a huge pain to get it delivered. I heard what put the nail in the coffin was the big (40') semi-customs right at the end of it all that were late and they had to pay big penalties.  So my only fear is they will concentrate on big $ boats instead of the 17-26' ers that built their fabulous reputation. I still think that there was not a better Sound boat. We made it home in some scary stuff, when the Merc decided to get stuck in reverse, and even again when it wouldn't run up past half throttle!
Same boat now fishes out've Anacortes. Great memories. Priceless, even. The Hooknose!

Thats cool I picked up a 1980 18' last year and had it rerigged with a 85 Suzuki I had love it! rides awesome and for an 18 it has plenty of room. Would be interesting to see if they will make the 18-26 footers
