Mine sent.Dear Senator Benton, Please oppose the Senate Bill 6628 that has been proposed by Senator Kline. We already have laws which punish people for leaving weapons accessible to children, namely Washington's Reckless Endangerment Statute. In addition, both incidents of gun violence last week, the murder of our State Trooper and the accidental shooting of that little girl, were the result of felons illegally in possession of a firearm. No new law is going to prevent a felon from acquiring a firearm when they're already ignoring the existing laws. Do not allow our state to demonize people who legally and safely possess firearms because of the illegal actions of criminals. Please vote against this bill. I would appreciate the courtesy of a reply. Thank you. Most Sincerely, John W
Good to hear, BD. I hope these people are getting some flack for trying to take advantage of these tragedies.
It actually may be worse than it appears. If you read the full bill -SB6628, most of it is a revision of the RCW 9.41.070 which governs the concealed carry permit process. I haven't dissected it word for word but this may be an end-run trying to slip something undesirable into the CCW process. Gee, who would ever think a Democrat would stoop to something THAT low?!Here is the full text of SB6628:http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2011-12/Pdf/Bills/Senate%20Bills/6628.pdfHere is the existing RCW for conceal permit process:http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.070
