Why I Elk Hunt
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:25:34 PM »
This is a paper for school. Any ideas for added info would be greatly appreciated.

I roam the hills of the pacific northwest looking for Roosevelt elk, waking up before day break to scour the tree rich forests where these elusive beasts make there home. The sound of a bugle ripping down the canyon walls makes the hair on the back of my neck stand and my adrenaline starts to flow. I prepare all year shooting, walking, running, biking, lifting weights, scouting, spending hard earned money, and mentally running through every possible scenario for just one chance, one second when its all on me and nobody else, this is were I thrive, where I was meant to be. But this lifestyle is not all fun and games; it can be torture, filled with sweat, blood, and mental punishment.  This season spans thirty- six days, twelve days early season and twenty- four days late season, when everything is put on hold for just one opportunity, where the thousands of arrows shot in the off season comes down to one perfectly placed arrow in the moment of truth. This is more then just a hobby this is a life style, a brother hood, this is why I archery hunt the elusive Roosevelt elk.

Not sure what you are asking..  :dunno:
But, when writing an essay, or any (graded) paper (usually) begins by separateing the theme (subject) into a few parts (3 is normal)
Prepare an outline or diagram of your ideas.
1) You tell them what you are going to tell them,
Write your statement, or the introduction)
2)then in the body of the story, you tell them,
Write the body.
Write the main points.
Write the subpoints.
Elaborate on the subpoints.
3)then you tell them what you told them...
(summarise the conclusion.)

I agree with STIKNSTRINGBOW and I would possibly change "elusive beast" to "elusive, Majestic animal" :twocents:

Take some notes with all the reasons why you hunt first then break each down into your paragraphs. you may want to add something like how your away from the rush of everyday life of it puts you into nature as one with it . ( that is only if it doe's ) HECK IT'S WHY I WORK EVERY DAY !

Its kinda a wierd paper she wants us to decribe ourselves as a member of a "distinct tribe".
Then the subject of your "Distinct Tribe" should be the general theme,
Begin with an introduction of what you see the tribe you belong to as.. Such as, outdoorsmen (and women) or, hunters, or bowhunters, or Elk hunters... give it a name.
 Set an outline, ..
1st part, describe what sets this "tribe" apart (generally pick 3 things), and how you belong to it.
write a paragraph elaborating on each of these 3 parts (or what number you come up with, more will not hurt)
You should have 4 (or more paragraphs now)
Write the last one, describing how these things apply to you, and how they give you a sense of belonging to this "tribe"
...........
Read it, then re-write the whole thing with any touch-ups you can come up with, if you have WORD, use spelling and grammar check.
A+ !! (or however they grade now..)

I belong to a group of hunters that roam the hills of the pacific northwest looking for Roosevelt elk.  It is more than just a hobby it is a life style, a brother hood, a tribe of  .... ( ? )

We prepare all year by .. ( ? ) looking for ( ?)  and this gives me ( ?)
 (paragraph #2 ) how I prepare...
(paragraph #3 ) what I look/listen for...
(paragraph #4) what I (we) get out of this experience...
(conclusion, paragraph #5 ) how the way I prepare to go look/listen for an opportunity to get what I get out of this whole experience makes me a member of the ( ? ) tribe.
.......
Basic outline, use your own ideas, be as descriptive as possible... change the ideas to what makes you the most enthusiastic about why/what it is you do...
If it is something you really believe, the words will come...
