Settle Your Differences with Your Politically Like-Minded Voters

We all have differences of opinion on individual points. Some of us don't agree on specific issues like same sex marriage or other social debates. We don't need to agree on everything to vote for politicians who best represent our views, our passions (like hunting), and our vision of what is great governance. In the upcoming election we need to be able to identify our friends and foes.

Over the coming months, there are many of these sub-issues that will work against unity in defeating liberals in our state and on the federal level. Don't buy into it. Identify those who will support the people you will support and stand by them; forget the individual issues. Identify those who will work to oppose those who you support and shine the light on them. We need to work together if we're to have any chance at all of putting conservatives in Olympia and the White House come November. End the line of liberals in the Governor's mansion this year. End the Obama Presidency. We all need to work together on this. Your thoughts?

my opinion is simple,if ya like obama vote for him.A vote for anyone one besides the one choosen to run against him,is a vote obama..Sucks but that is what it will come down to.And its going to be close.there is no debating this...

Elections are rarely about picking the "best" candidate.  They are about choosing the better candidate.  On the national level it will be another four years of Obama or the Republican candidate.

Agreed. I'm a Ron Paul guy and will vote for whomever opposes the President for the GOP come November. I will strive to support my fellow conservatives to present a unified front, regardless of our individual differences in policy. It's very clear to me who the "foes" are in this race.

Unfortunately people in our country are all about how well someone presents them self....not about how well one can do the job. I agree about the better message and my whole point is that once the R candidate is selected, the individual differences need to disappear and conservatives need to unite with focus where it belongs, on the opponent.

And I feel that it will happen. The sooner that the contender is selected....the better. We need to focus on making O'bummer a one term pres. The longer it takes to select an "R" the harder it will be.

Mckenna is worthy of my vote, he is worthy of my campaign contributions. He will be good for Washington.

If Jay Inslee is elected the only good thing is perhaps they are planning to have Elliot Spitzer open a new chain of Spa and Massage retreats? I guess it might help give the economy a lift? A new career for the current Governor? 

I think that "differences of opinion" are good. We need to be able to do so and not worry about being attacked. It is always a good idea to remember "context." Just because some are thinking about the Governors race or the Federal Races some of us are still myopically focused on the 2012-14 season doesn't mean one side is wrong. There is nothing wrong with bringing the bigger picture in to focus. But I think it is wrong to chastise someone for not always living there. For to long we have been focused on who is in power, which season, which method is more important and not putting it all together. We need to pull together. That is what all out legislators should be told.

Glad to see there's a few folks who align with my own pragmatic view of politics on this forum. I think airing differences of opinion is important and I try to leave an open mind about things in case someone has an idea or set of facts that I have not considered before. I realize not everyone is going to agree on everything but if we can identify some core beliefs and principles and work from there it helps keep the correct focus.

Seems like recently there's been some threads that attract exactly the  type of thinking that pianoman is warning about. "I don't care about who can win, my guy is the best guy and I'm gonna write him in!". "We have to teach the country a lesson and maybe if things get bad enough, people will learn." Conspiracy theories abound about whatever new organization has taken over the RP.

I've try to debate facts for awhile but then realize it's a futile attempt. There just are going to be a certain amount of people who think that way and will vote that way regardless. While I generally agree with some of their core beliefs, the way they plan to achieve their objective just is not going to happen.

Hopefully their write-in vote will be countered by the the number of people who voted for Obama in the last election that just won't vote for anyone this time.

We don't need to agree with one another. That's what freedom is. Never been a democrat and probably never will. Spent most of my life as a republican. Voted for Bush the 2nd time around and would have the 1st time, but I was to young to vote. I was proud to be a republican. God, Guns, and Glory. I couldn't understand why anyone would choose to be a “Demorat”. I didn't agree with gay marriage or abortions and wanted my second amendment rights protected, so I wanted a President that shared my beliefs and would apply laws to protect or enforce those beliefs. After all, each one of us knows whats best for everyone right? Gun grabbing democrats promoted a welfare state and weren't willing to commit to fighting terrorism. I wanted justice for 9/11 and they couldn't keep the people safe. Real pansies as far as I was concerned. The republican party got my vote. Patriot Act. Sure, why not? They won't spy on me and even if they do, who cares? Nothing to hide here. I wasn't worried about the terrorist getting me, but what about all the people in the big cities. They were targets and I was willing to accept losing some freedoms to protect those people, but the democrats refused to understand and kept trashing my President. Leave him alone cowards. He makes me proud to be an American. Here I sit years later. I still have the same beliefs I've always had, but they are my beliefs not everyone’s.  I'm not going to agree with everybody’s views the same way everybody's not going to agree with mine. I still think the democrats have it all wrong, and still consider myself a republican. My problem today is I feel the republican party is no better or worse than the democrats. They lie, cheat, and steal just the same. They might not directly attack our 2nd amendment like the dems, but they won't hesitate to take our freedoms any differently. If we have something they want, they will take it from us if we let them. As far as most of the other RP/DP issues, its not there place and never was. Read our constitution. Its fairly simple and clear. The men who founded this great nation through war and loss of life, limited their power for a reason. They never needed this much power even if their intentions were initially good. Our forefathers gave us the foundation for freedom and expected us to stand guard and protect it, but we fell asleep and let it crumble. I feel this idea of fearing the democrats, but trusting the republicans is misguided. The only candidate that I feel respects our rights and doesn't have an ulterior motive  is Ron Paul. He not only defends us from the democrats, but also any republican that threatens our freedoms as well and has done so for years. They say he doesn't have a plan, but he does. Its called the constitution, which we have strayed from. We have let the federal government become such a big part of the decision making in this country that we expect them to come up with some type of new “plan”. Their plans don't work. The constitution does. The reason our economy is failing is because they've taken control of it. If they would just stay out of the way, we could get back to where we once were. A lot of republicans complain about Obama and the gas prices, but want more wars in the middle east. If more war is coming than so are higher prices at the pump, along with more innocent lives lost. Many think Ron Paul doesn't have a plan for foreign policy and that he won't fight terror. Why did the terrorist attack us? Our government tells us its because we're freedom loving Christians and they hate our way of life. Is that the reason, or is it because our government has been walking all over the middle eastern countries sovereignty for decades and the terrorist cowards attacked us to get revenge on Washington? I'm not defending the terrorist and believe the only good one is a dead one, but we can't fix this problem until we find the true cause of their hatred towards us. Are we eliminating the terror threat or increasing it with the wars over there. How many terrorist have we actually killed and by that I mean terrorist that would have come over here and attacked us, not the insurgents that are murdering our soldiers for being in there country. How many new terrorist have we created since 2001? I don't know the answer and I'm not sure if anybody does, but I know Washington doesn't. As far as voting for a RP candidate other than Paul, I want Obama gone just as much as anyone, but at this point I'm done supporting a system that doesn't serve the people and a vote for what I see as the lesser of the 2 evils is still a vote for evil. I think our system is broke to the point it no longer matters which party rules over us and until we can learn to unite not as liberals or conservative, but as country, flip flopping parties every 4-8 years while both take our liberties isn't accomplishing anything. Unlike some that choose not to cast a vote because they don't care, I'm choosing not to because I do. As far as the 2nd amendment, I will not fear my government and if they choose to take it from me I will exercise it to my fullest. I apologize if I offended anyone, but I feel this country is falling apart and most are missing the big picture. These are my thoughts.
