Sightron SIII 8-32x56
« on: March 10, 2012, 09:02:23 AM »
I got a chance last weekend to go out with the new Sightron SIII 8-32 scope with the MOA-2 reticle and I am very impressed. I have it mounted on a 6mm BR handgun right now, but when my 375 is finished it will go on there. I did side by side comparisons with my 6.5-20  Mk 4 and a friends Nightforc BR 8-32. To me, the SIII was better than the Mk 4 in almost every way. Optically the SIII appeared brighter, clearer, and had sharper contrast than the Mk 4. The clicks on the SIII were much more solid and had an audible click. The Mk 4 turrets have a very soft feel when you turn them, but the nobs themselves are a little bigger and easier to grab. I like the SIII reticle and in some ways it's better than the TMR on the Mk4. The Sightron MOA-2 has a small floating dot at the very center of the plex which I like better for target use. The TMR is a very similar design, but has the advantage of being FFP

I didn't have as much time to spend with the Nightforce BR, but I'll say that the SIII was right there with it. The contrast was a little better with the Nightforce, but the color looked better in the SIII.  The Nightforce had the adjustable objective, but the SIII has the side focus which is pretty nice. The clicks on the SIII were more positive than the adjustments on the Nightforce as well.

I like the SIII so much that I'm considering getting one to replace my Mk4. I paid $950 for the SIII, and the Mk4 ER 6.5-20 is in the $1600+ range.  I could sell the Mk4, buy an SIII and have money left over for reloading components!

I like Sightron products all along... I have a SIIBig Sky 3-9X42 and that is my main hunting glass.

I love my SIII. I have it in a 6-24x50 on my Lazzeroni Warbird. The zero stop has been excellent and it is great glass. I think I have looked through lots and lots of high end scopes and these are better than most!!!
