An Awesome Day
« on: March 10, 2012, 06:43:40 PM »
With good friends......

I decided for my 40th birthday that I wanted to go bird hunting out at Cooke Canyon. I asked a few friends if they wanted to go and we had a good time. I was originally was suppose to have my daughter go with also but she canceled on me. A little disappointing but hey that's life, we had a good time any ways.

I picked up Pete (low97ram) and Marlin and we were off. Hit some bad traffic at 6 this morning on 167 and flipped a U turn onthe Hwy and went around all the traffic. Was running a little late so we met Tom (Ribka) at the Mc.D's for a quick bite to eat headed over to the Club house, got all signed in and started our hunt.

It was Pete and Marlin's first time out so went over some safty guidelines and started to hunt. Our plan was to have Hermy (Tom's visla) do the pointing and after we were set up, send Buddy (my lab) in to do the flushing. Didn't work so well the on the first bird, it didnt flush right away so Buddy caught it :bash:  :chuckle: but after that it went a bit smoother for us all.

We had a good day, no one got hurt and I think I have two other hunting buddies hooked on upland  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Had same pheasant soup that Alice made for lunch and this guy walked in that looked familial, but I could not place a name with the face. Alice came over and asked if I knew who it was but could  not come up with a name until she said the magic words "Hunting with Hank", thenthe bells went off......Dez Young was in the room  :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:  Marlin and I sat and BSed with him for a bit before we left an I was able to get my pic. taken with him and Dash

Here's a few pic from our day......enjoy.

Great post..."Hunting with Hank" is the reason I became interested in Upland Hunting. My dog's middle name is Hank :) very cool that you were able to meet Dez and Dash!

Great pics Pete.  I met Dez and Dash at a Ruffed Grouse Asso. banquet a few years ago.  He's a real nice guy who was easy to talk to.  Remember "Don't spoil your bird dog"  :chuckle:
