outboard jet intake fins
« on: March 12, 2012, 01:37:56 PM »
Just wondering if anyone on here is running those fins that drop down off the side of the shoe... Seen them on some pumps and wanted to hear some input on whether they really made any difference.

I had them on mine for a while.seemed to help in the corners, less caviation and more control.Only problem i had with them is when the water got really skinny and they get smashed flat. :bash:

Normally placed upon boats that the hull isn't specifically designed for a jet pump and used to enhance smooth water flow to the pump...  Alot of boats that do not have the flat section at the back and shops will put them on to increase that ability to capture enough water effectively...  Same thing for extended plates from transom to the pump.  Again normally a hull design problem and an attempt to gather better water at the pump.   Not needed at all for the right hull...

Agree 100% if your going to run skinny water- they won't last long.

I have a flat bottom alumaweld and I made a set.  They work well to get up on step and in choppy water.  It took at least half the cavitation but I lost a little off the top end I think they create a little drag but worth it.  Easy to make and replace if bent if you want I can send you a pic.

Thanks for the info guys... I have a willie flatbottom and it has the plate from the transom to the front of the shoe. I havent even run the boat yet its getting rigged this week so im gonna run it for a bit first and if it has any cavitation issues ill look into getting some.
