Spring Puppy Test!
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:30:25 PM »
Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone is interested, the Versatile Hunting Dog Federation is holding their Spring Puppy Test on May 19,20.  The web site has Olympia,WA for the location, however, the test will be in Elma.  I know there is still openings at the moment if you would like to test your pup, or if you would just like to come watch and see what its all about its all good.  For more info you can go to www.vhdf.org, I believe its a very good test for evaluating the dog with their 10pt scoring system.

Its more of an aptitude test than a puppy test..........usually they are dogs 1.5 years and below but there is no age requirement.  Its supposed to be an evaluation of a dog that has been exposed to game with not a lot of training, they judge on inherited abilities as apposed to trained abilities.  The dogs are evaluated on Pointing, Search, Desire, Cooperation, Nose, Tracking, and Water aptitude.  Its a 1-10pt scoring system so a perfect score would be a 70 but 11's and 12's are also handed out for exceptional work.  I believe its a very good system for seperating dogs compared to NAVHDA's 4 point system, I'm not trying to knock that one I like it as well.  I just feel this one better suits me.

I like there 10 point system better than NAVHDA also. I've already sent in my money for a NAVHDA NA test in June though.

I hear ya, it can get expensive to do them all.  I plan on running my pup in the NAVHDA NA test in the fall if I can get in, it always seems to fill up quick.  Nothing wrong with that test only difference to me is the scoring system and from what i've seen comparing the two VHDF water test for pups is harder to get a high score.
