Kuiu clothing

Who has it? How do you like it I received my attack pants in the mail the other day and the guide jacket mailed this morning. I have never spent this kind of money on cloths and really hope I like them

The Ascent pant are by far my favorite for the style of hunting I do.  They are lined with a thin liner that keeps you plenty warm if you are a "hike" hunter.  Actually, too warm in September.  If you need added warmth, wear a pair of merino longjohns and you're good to go. :twocents:

They aren't the warmest pants but are fine in colder conditions with some type of thermal under them.  You will be very pleased with them, best hunting pants I have ever worn.  Wore them about 20 days in the field last year, still look new except for a few blood stains.

ascent is a lighter weight then the attack pants, attack are similar to the mountain pant i think.
60 deg comfortable
40 deg light long johns
20 fleece long johns
i really like the cut of them and the weight, dry super quick too

I have the 185 and 250 base layers, the guide vest and jacket, attack pants, the hat and a beanie.  It is all very well made.  I also like the firstlite base layers and Kanab pants.  Merino wool base layers pay off three days into a hunt.

So yesterday went on a couple hour hike in the rain/snow/hail/sunshine/uphill/downhill thick westside underbrush you get the point  :chuckle:.  the jacket and pants worked flawlessly best purchase i have ever made i was wearing gators but that's just because i knew i was going to be into sticker Bush's.  i stayed completely dry even though they only claim water resistant and in my rivers west stuff i would have been soaked.  any mud dirt debris brushed right off of this stuff. I really like the stretch of the material you can lift your arms without the jacket riding up under the back pad as bad with a pack on like the rest of my jackets.  it breaths extremely well going uphill. i stayed relatively warm with just summer under armour on. if i was sitting i think i would have been alittle chilly temp was right around freezing. they will defiantly get more business from me in the future. i know this stuff is a little on the spendy side but worth every penny ill will keep everyone posted as i wear it this year and let you know how it holds up to wear over time.

I have heard you will have to refresh the DWR with a wash cycle of nikwax but it replenishes well.

ya if you read his blog on kuiu.com its pretty interesting. I really like his business plan about keeping the whole company transparent and let everyone know about the ups and downs the backorders are a issue but at least they straight up said hey sorry we didn't expect to grow this fast so soon and the product is not made in china so it takes like 6 to 8 months from when they place orders(well the final product the material is from some nanotech company over there.)
I looked into there backpacks as well and from what i understand they are the most comfortable pack around until you get 80 plus pounds in it then its starts to show where they are just saving weight. only a option if you have pack animals i guess.

Toray (the material supplier) is in Japan, not China and the earthquake caused them to get very behind in production.  Jason will iron things out.  I am waiting to see what his gaitors are going to look like.  My next item on my want list from them.

Thought I'd give my $.02 on the Kuiu gear I have.  I only had this stuff for modern elk season last year so this is my initial impressions;

Chugach Jacket and Pants - Really, really good raingear.  It's lightweight, packs down into a very small size, breathes fairly well and is pretty quiet for raingear.  I was actually hoping it would be a little quieter but it's totally acceptable to me.  If I'm creeping along really slowly it won't be the noise from my raingear that gives me away.  Especially in the conditions I would be wearing these in.  May be a little loud for bow hunters but I don't bow hunt and couldn't say for sure.  It was a pretty dry elk season this last year (by westside standards) so I didn't really get to put these through the ringer but in the few times it did rain hard I stayed bone dry in them.  My only knock would be that I wish the pants had at least 1 or 2 pockets.

Guide Jacket - Absolutely love this jacket!  Fit and finish are top notch and the jacket just works well for so many conditions.  I could wear this in 60 degree temps with a t-shirt underneath on a sunny day, I could wear this in a light rain or I could layer up and wear it down to any temps we get on the westside.  The DWR finish did repel water fairly well and didn't seem to wet out.

Attack Pants - Another great product from Kuiu.  These may be the most comfortable pair of pants that I've ever put on!  The fit, which I know is subjective, is perfect for me and feels like that pants were custom tailored.  These are fairly lightweight and I was wearing a base layer under them all during elk season, but that's something I really like about them.  They could easily be worn in September by themselves or in November with a base layer (at least here on the westside).

Merino 250 top and bottom - I had never worn merino wool before and I have to say, this stuff is amazing!  It keeps you warm when your cold but stays cool when you get hot.  It dries fairly quickly, breathes really well and it doesn't get funky like Under Armour.  I used to wear Under Armour exclusively but will NEVER wear it again hunting.  Merino wool is just head and shoulders better IMO.  Under Armour is now just for cold days on the golf course.  My only knock on these is I wish the tops didn't have a zipper.  When I'm layered up I have these tops, a long sleeve shirt, a vest, a coat, then blaze orange.  That's like 5 zippers under my chin.  I'd love these tops without the zipper.

Guide Glove - I'm not a glove guy at all.  I really don't like to wear them unless I'm sitting and my hands get really cold.  Unfortunately, my hands seem to get cold a lot when I'm sitting.  So I picked up a pair of these gloves and really like them.  They're fairly weatherproof like the jacket, and the palms are made with a tacky sort of material that gives you really good grip in wet conditions.  They're not too heavy so you do still have some dexterity with them on.  I thought the gloves ran just a tad small so if you're thinking of ordering some and are in between sizes, I would say go up to the larger size.

Guide Beanie - Nice hat.  Doesn't seem to be quite as weather resistant as the coat and gloves but it's a nice warm hat.  I thought this too ran a tad small (which works good for me).  I wear around 6 7/8 - 7 in a fitted ball cap and this fit me well.  But, if you were a 7 1/2 or larger I could see this being really tight.

Merino 185 Beanie - This is a nice layer to wear if it's cool but not cold enough for the Guide Beanie.  Or if it's really cold I wear this under my guide beanie.

Merino 185 Neck Gaitor - Picked this up when they were on sale.  It serves it's purpose and helps shields my 10 days at elk camp, unshaven neck from the 5 zippers I spoke of earlier!  :)

All in all I absolutely love my Kuiu gear and have had great customer service from them as well.  On my first order I couldn't make up my mind on what size and color I wanted in a couple items.  Called and changed my order twice before it shipped.  The lady wasn't annoyed, like she had every right to be, and was nothing but helpful.  My order showed up and the next day I got a phone call from the lady I placed my order with.  She said "I know we made a couple changes to your order and I just wanted to make sure that everything was right".  It was and I was even more impressed!  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for new gear.  I know I'll be buying more from them once their shelves are stocked again!

Very good review.  I worn the Guide Jacket in the snow while Steelhead fishing last week.  After 2 or 3 hours it did leak in a couple spots.  Overall not too bad as it is not designed to be water proof, but resistant.  So far I really like the gear, only time will tell how it holds up.
Will hunt for food.

Yeah, I should have said that a little more clearly with the Guide Jacket.  I would be okay wearing this in light rain showers.  If you have a steady rain it's time for the Chugach!  I too am hoping this gear holds up well as I don't have a ton of time in the field with it, but so far everything has been really encouraging!
