14 quality deer points
« on: March 15, 2012, 05:46:44 PM »
I have been putting in for deer permits for about 14 years now and havent drawn a single tag :bash: . And I am looking for a good mule deer hunt. I have hunted in slide ridge before and don't know if it is any good. Entiat is another one that i may put in for. Anyways i would like to put in for a late novemeber rut mule deer hunt so i can get a buck meybe in the 180's. Any help would be appreciated

how many of these topics are we gonna see????

any of those hunts up north are gonna be the ones to apply for, alta, swakane, entiat, mission, etc.....
id look towards the blue mountain foothills for a quality hunt and a chance at a nice mature muley, probably not a 180 in deer, heck that will be hard in those other units but you never know!

I've been drawn three times since the point system started, so I will only have 4 points for this year.   :bash:

I probably will only apply for a point, because I'm buying an archery tag this year, and I can't think of any quality archery permits I want to apply for.

With 14 points you have pretty good odds. Just apply for one of the least popular Chelan or Okanogan hunts.

You are in a different situation than the guy with 9 points.  If I were you, I would focus more on the premium permits, those being the ones in the Methow, Chelan area and Desert.  Any of those should be good with some being a little better than others of course.

Put in for the areas you know as far as special permits.

If you only want a 180 buck you should hunt another state or buy the governors tag. Pretty tall order here.
