Bumping is great if you like to walk a ton, awesome country but the best hunting is away from the roads in my opinion.

There are no elk in Bethel... And if there were it gets hammered with orange during modern.

Love both of those areas because less people the farther off the road you are.  The Bethel has elk you just have to find them and this past year there were quite a few.......nevermind there are no elk in the Bethel.

Lot of good areas have been proposed so decide what you want and get started, keep us posted with your decision.

I agree with elkinrut.  I have been hunting elk 14 years and have gotten one cow and got my first spike last year.  I have seen spikes before but they were either to far or gave me the slip. A couple I just plan missed. And I know people that have hunted alot longer than me that haven't had very good success.  But its not all about the kill. Its more about the good times and getting away from everyday life. So only after 3 years of hunting you/he shouldn't be getting discouraged.  If that was the case I think alot of people that hunt elk in washington would of given up along time ago.

Sounds like someone needs to take a backpacking trip in the bumping GMU and go scouting.  I killed my spike last year on the modern opening day in the bumping gmu. tons of elk running around everywhere with no people at all . There are also spikes in the bethel if you decide to hunt with the other 10,000 hunters during the modern

Just watch out on the true spike units.  a real short forked point behind a tree limb can ruin your day!
If hunting was easy, they'd call it killing....

Never judge a man til you walk a mile in his shoes.  That way when you do judge him, you will have a mile head start and he will have no shoes.

Bumping Big NO! That unit isn't what it use to be! the logging has messed with them a little and from my experience their migration/movement habits have changed! Not saying they aren't there but not the choice area  :twocents:
