AR-15 question, again
« on: March 16, 2012, 08:59:23 AM »
So, if I get this right, I can buy a complete lower and then an upper in 5.56 and .308 and they'd be interchangeable or would I need to do something to the lower to swap in and out?

I'm looking at this lower:
http://colemantyler.com/proddetail.php?prod=PCLRC6

With that lower, looks like I can find a DPMS complete upper for $350-$400.  That'd be about $500-$600 for a finished AR-15.  Anyone sell a complete package off the shelf cheaper than that?

I will when I get a chance.  I'm trying REALLY hard to make the decision to buy an AR-15 over an AK-74 or 47.  REALLY trying.

Im pretty sure you can NOT use an AR15 lower with a .308, thats an AR10 size..

someone correct me if Im wrong.

Good price on that lower setup though!

K.  That settles it.  Going with an AK

http://www.slickguns.com/product/ak-74-bulgarian-standard-rifle-waffen-werks-619

Or there are Polish Tantal's for half the price.  Not as high quality though

Nothing specific.  Just don't have a semi-auto rifle in the safe yet and I want one for fun shooting.  Price is the MAJOR factor followed by simplicity then reliability.

The AK's have the advantage in price and appear much simpler.  Can't imagine their reliability is much worse, if it's worse at all.

then get an AR15, alot of cheap options to put on top of it, plus you can shoot deer with the larger options if you hunt. I built one with a 6.5 Grendel upper and its awesome!

But for plinking, you can do the .22, or a .223

with the adaptability of the AR platform, i don't know why you'd even bother looking at an AK.  ARs are tinker toys for grown up boys (and girls)!!!  shoot .22LR for practice, swap out the upper for a .223 for varmints, a 6.5 grendel for deer, a .300 Whisper for suppressed sniping, .50 beowolf for big bear... man, AR's can do it all!

You can do that all with a single lower, correct?
