Talked to a Montana fish and game employee earlier today and they were undersubscribed again by about 800 tags in the big game combo.

Looks like I'm going to Montana.  I was a little nervous because we didn't buy the $50 perf point.

Not true.  I didn't get drawn for Big Game Combo

That is what he told me.  As long as we filled out our applications right we should be good. :dunno:

Now mine says I was not successful for the Big Game Combo. I had 1 point and my points did not increase for the combo, they increased for everything else. :dunno:

Mine too now that you mention it. Says I got 1 bonus point but 0 preference points...

I remember, and age thing, I didn't buy the point as I thought the 1 point I already had would be enough. 1 point has always been enough before. I'll buy the point later this year when you can. :cryriver:

Did you guys request a refund of the elk tag cost if you didn't draw the deer/elk combo?  That is what I did and probably stupidly I paid the preference point fee and that shows 0 points so I am thinking the "not successful" on the combo license has to do with the fact that you are not getting the combo licens you applied for but rather just the deer tag.  I have no idea if that is the case really but I'm hoping so because if not, something is screwed with my points/application.  I don't know how it could be because I applied online and it was all straight forward from what I could tell.

I think the not selected may have to do with the turning your elk tag in option.

We didn't buy a pref point and got drawn.  Tyson's group elected to return their elk tag if not successful on a special permit and it shows them as unsuccessful and they bought a pref point.

That's what I'm thinking too.

There is a glitch in the system, I'm sure they will get it fixed. For those of us that applied for combo and chose to get a refund for our elk portion if we didn't draw the special permit, it shows "big game combo not successful"

I think this is because when you recieve your refund you no longer are considered in the "combo" portion. We will likely still be sent a "Deer" tag but that will not show up in the "big game combo" status, we will have to wait and see.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Lets hope so, I was really planing on going back this fall. My alternative thoughts of buying leftover Wy. tags are swirling around my head.

We put in for just the elk combo, not the deer/elk combo so I am hoping that we will still get the points for bonus and preference.

GOING BACK BABY.  Me, my dad, and our buddy got drawn for deer.  The area we deer hunt is a hard draw for elk and i dont want to set the extra money aside just in case.   I just leave up to luck and just put in for deer.  It has worked for the last two years.

We couldn't draw the big game combo with a point... I thought they were undersubscribed last year and couldn't hardly give them away after their price hike?  Not sure how that works... any insight anybody that's more familiar with the MT process?

Thanks.

Did you apply for a special elk permit hunt as well and if so did you elect to refund your elk tag if you did not draw the elk permit you applied for?  The thinking seems to be that if you put in for deer/elk combo and applied for an elk permit AND elected to have your elk tag refund if you were unsuccessful in the elk permit drawing then you are showing as unsuccessful for the deer/elk combo but you in fact drew it and due to the refund you will still get your deer tag but the system is not clearly showing what is going on in this instance.   :twocents:
