I talked to an old timer last weekend that said there where some real big bears in the area he said u just have to get out of the truck. Jckillshot what do u have planed for this weekend

Well, I know there's at least one bear awake in the Lincoln unit!  After hiking and driving around the southwest portion of the unit, I came face to face with about a 150 lb bear at about 10 yds.  I was hiking down an old logging road while he was climbing up.  The road was filled with blow downs and we both were climbing over these when we saw each other.  He took off into the reprod and I had no time for a shot.  I chased after him into the thick reprod for about 30 yds then rethought my decision to do that and backed out.  It was thick.
I didn't see any scat or peeled trees and I drove all over that portion of the unit.  I hiked down a lot of the little spur roads and tried some varmint calls in the open areas.  I had pretty much given up on seeing anything today thinking it was still too early when I saw the bear.  He caught me off guard  :bash:
Hopefully I'll get a chance to head back down there next week.

No I didn't head out there today I should have though cause it was a beautiful day. I'm think I might head down there tomorrow since its still supposed to be nice.

How did you guys do this weekend I spent the weekend off the 6500 roads i found a few stumps tore up but never saw anything. There was 1 takin out late Friday I saw it in the back of a truck

I saw one bear, but no sign, scat, or damaged trees.  I spent most of my time down off the 550, 554, 610 roads which are in the southwest section.  I took a short hike up the B-1000 line in the North section off of Garrad Creek rd and did'nt see any sign in there either.  Wheres the 6500 road at?  Can't find that on the map.

I heard a couple of ATVs where I was, are those allowed on the Weyerhauser property (as long as the roads open)?
There are so many blowdowns on many of the logging roads that I couldnt get my truck passed, but easier with a bike or quad.

I was up in the north west corner of of harp road. The blow downs are every where and really bad most of the off roads and some of the main roads are closed because of it

Only street legal vehicles are allowed on Weyerhaeuser. That doesn't mean you won't see them out there though. Usually the locals that just ride from their house.
