Idaho Panhandle Elk hunting
« on: March 29, 2012, 05:50:04 PM »
Im curious if anyone has any information on where to look for elk next year. Not looking for honey holes. We are taking a scouting trip over summer and want to make the most out of the time we have! We are looking for over the counter tags and archery or modern. I hope someone is willing to share some good information. I would be willing to share some awesome whitetail spots in return!
Also I was wondering what are some good draw units in the panhandle also?

Tons of info for you on this forum, try searching for it.  Also check the regs, there aren't any draw units for elk in the panhandle, except for cows this year.  There are lots of good elk areas in the panhandle, I hunted unit 4 and unit 1, you gotta do lots of scouting to find the elk and learn the area.  If you search the forum though you will get more than enough info on places to start.  Good luck

Can you say wolves?

There are areas in the panhandle that are still great for elk hunting with seemingly no effect of wolves.

if your not too stuck on the panhandle im going to be doin some scouting for mulies soon and be lookin for elk. i just moved to southern idaho, so i cant wait til the snow melts so i can get up there. central ID is where i will be doing most of my scouting, most likely with good results as i have already seen a ton of cows in Sun valley. I will keep you posted. Most likely i will forget to re-post so PM me or e-mail me at iceman91m@yahoo.com

Washelkhunter... There is NO probably about it... You get up around Bonners Ferry and they are a VERY independent nature type... If you are from the government, you are not there to help.... And they are very likely to tell you to pack your  :crap: and leave...
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
