Elk herd west of Vantage?
« on: April 08, 2012, 07:42:32 PM »
So I travel for work every weekend and for the 3rd straight week I have seen this herd that has 300/400 head maybe more just guessing, west of Vantage on the north side of I-90 near the big windmills! All the years and numerous trips thru there I've never seen this herd J ust curious has anybody else been seeing them and does anybody know what herd that is?

That is very traditional winter ground for elk out of the Colockum area.    I think they are more often North of the old Vantage highway, but I know I've seen them in there quite a bit, too.

I have seen them too when I took my son back to WSU.  I figured at least 150 head of elk.

years ago the were shooting them with some type of net gun from a helicopter, they were showing it live on the news , had some type of malfunction and it did not explode the net until it hit a cow in the back of the head dropped her dead in her tracks

Just saw them on on Thursday afternoon.  They were on top of the hill on the south side of 90.

I saw them 2 weekends ago.  I saw around 40 but im sure there were more on top of the hill.  I was heading east and they were on the left side about 1/4 the way down the hill.

I drove to Spokane last week & there were three elk in the median at Vantage just as I started heading down the hill.  A cow & two smaller elk and it looked like they were running around playing.  Cool to see. Mike
