Mike Lardy's Total Retriever Program
« on: April 17, 2012, 01:24:32 PM »
Thought about posting this in the Hunting dog board but most topics are upland related and I'm much more concerned with retrieving at this point...  Getting the new pup in 4 weeks.  Its been over 13 years since I trained my last dog-she's still here, but retired.  I had great success with the previous dog even though I had no real training experience, but with the new pup, I want to take it to the next level.  No worries about the genes, I've hunted with both parents 30+ times (dad is actually a CP as well).  Anyhow, I'm pretty much set on Mike Lardy's Total Retriever Program, but wanted to see what you all know/think...

Just keep throwing the dummy year round. Labs have great instincts but will drop it at your feet if not broke.  Nothing bothers me more when a dog drops a cripple and the duck gets away or fuss around more trying to get it back.  That is the most common problem I see in other blinds because of all the yelling after one gets away from a drop.  I have had many decoying birds flare because of this type of circus going on next door.
Don't read my post if facts hurt your feeling.
