Torn on which scope to buy...
« on: April 12, 2012, 09:04:32 PM »
So i have 550 dollars to bass pro shop. I am looking at a leupold scope for my ruger M77 mk II in 300 win. I have a bushnell elite 3200 3x9 on it right now. I was looking at a VX-3L 4.5x14x50 with the B&C reticle, or the 3.5x10x50 cds. Or maybe the duplex reticle.

Looking for opinions. I think i have asked a question about scopes before, but now i have the money. And i am ready to pull the trigger.

If you are planning on shooting at the extended ranges the cds is much better. The b&c works well but not as well as the cds when matched with you gun. My all time fave is the 4.5-14.

Alright, just skimmed through their website.

You are getting close to buying a Sworovski Z3 and you already have enough for the zeiss conquest line.  You are also well into being able to buy the top end Nikon monarchs. Anyone considering a lupy should look at the nikons.   Any of these would be my choise from bass pro shops lol.

BUT out of the ones you chose, I would probably go with the CDS lupy for long range and mount it as low as possible for maximum accuracy/cheek weld and hope I dont have to use their warranty like everyone else does lol.

The CDS is what i was planning on buying but i was looking to see if someone had a better opinion than the one i had in my head. I don't reload. I just don't make the time to do it. I can shoot reliably to 400 with my 3x9 right now and i am comfortable shooting that distance but i want better glass. And maybe to extend my range to 500. I am comfortable with my 300 and i have shot it alot. I wish i had a little crisper trigger pull, but i love that gun.
Probably going with the 3.5x10, or the 4.5x14 VX-3L.

SO now i am looking at the Zeiss, Nikon Monarch and the leupold. I like the conquest with the z600, and z800 reticles.  Man reading reviews makes the zeiss sound like the best option. But i like the american company and having leupold close.

I heard a rumor. reall a rumor, that zeiss contracted lupy to put together the conquests.   Buy the zeiss, if you dont like it, send it back to bass pro and get something else.

Take a look at the Vortex Viper HS-LR 4x16x44 bdc reticle with elevation and windage turrets.  I have one on a 300rum and it is fantastic.  Their warranty's are as good as any in the industry.  vortexoptics.com

If not a Vortex then a Zeiss Conquest would be my next choice. :twocents:   JMHO

definatly write down a list of them and go intot he store for a hands on comparison. There are also the trijicon accupoint scopes in there as well, another bulletproof scope.

Pulled the trigger last night on the Leupold VX-3L 3.5x10x50 with the duplex reticle. I was looking at the CDS and the B&C but i wanted to save the choice for later. I can always pay to change the reticle later. Hope to get it mounted next week. It was 699 from bass pro shop. I had 700 in gift cards so i paid 20 out of pocket for shipping. No tax.

Leupold with the CDS... I have a Bushnell elite 3200 right now, and the cheapest leupy I have is better than that piece of garbage.

Any leupy, even the cheap ones, are just awesome.

:) I like the Leupolds, I got rid of the 4.5X14s I had, and now use 3.5X10 on everything. I traded for a couple of the 3.5s using the 4.5 as trade stock!!
I prefer having the lower 3.5X over have the 14X I never used the 14 power and find 10 perfectly good. Most of mine are 40mm I do have one 50mm and I do not think it helps any.
I have been using Leupolds for 50 years, Have never had a problem of any kind.
