Lake Roosevelt Walleye
« on: April 12, 2012, 08:18:53 PM »
My family and I have a trip on a house boat planned for the first week of August and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on catching some of those walleye that are in that lake? I dont know much about fishing them at all so any advice helps!

Jigs with grub tails tipped with a bit of crawler. 10 to 30' deep

Just get one of the maps of the lake and look for flats, They all hold fish at some time. If you dont catch one in 30 min or so move to the next one. Work the breaks first, Then the weed lines especially early august. I would run a spinner or smilie blade and crawler behind a bottom bouncer in 1 1/2 to 2 onnce on the breaks and crank baits like shad raps by the weeds. you can fish faster and cover more water this way.

Last year in August we caught them on green pumpkin Yamamoto 4" grubs mostly along rocky shores near the sand flats. About 30-45 feet deep. 1/4 ounce jig heads and we didn't even need to tip the grubs with worms. Lots of smallmouth to keep you busy between the walleye.
Love Roosevelt,
Mike

3-4inch natural corlered grubs with crawler. Dragem out in front of creek mouths in the flats. Good Luck!

In the summer it's hard to beat a smile blade and crawler. Like has been said, river mouths, rocky shoreline close to sand flats, along weed beds....... vary your depth till you find them it can vary day to day. I usually start at 20' then move up or down. Green and orange are always good colors to start with. Good luck.
