The very first deer I drew my bow on my first year with a bow and I didnt knock my arrow completely.  The spike blacky was 15 yards away broadside and didnt know I was there till my arrow went clunk as it fell of the knock!  My buddie quickly put arrow thru heart and laughed at me all the way home. :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:  Another time I decided to cross drainage draw at the bottom of clearcut.  A tangled mess of brush and windblows.  I could hear water flowing but couldnt see it.  My bright idea was to cross the tree laying accross it!  Bark slip, wet, windy and I was half way accross hugging the tree and holding bow with other arm.  15ft seemed like 50ft down and my groin was screaming you IDIOT!!! Bad idea when your in the woods alone.  :bdid:
MAGA!  Again..

In my early 20's my brother and I were hunting in the north cascades up by marblemount for bear. Any one that has left the trail in that country knows how easy it is to get lost, well we left the trail and got lost. The dumb thing we did was split up! A couple hours later I some how found my way back to the truck by pure a ss luck, my brother ended up back at the truck being dropped off by a forest service person 2 hours later. He had ended up 10 miles away! We were very lucky, and I would never think of splitting up again should it ever happen again. Being lost in the woods is a very bad feeling, I found myself asking the birds for direction :bdid:

This was actually my first hunt in ND, (actually first hunt ever)

It is legal to have one vehicle drive out onto land to retrieve game. (only one) Anyway, I bagged my doe and sorta gutted it. (mostly Dad was showing me because it was my first time) Anyway I was excited I left the pelvis saw by the pile.

So when the truck came up he ran over the saw. Luckily it didn't puncture the tire.  :)

This was my most recent hunt trip,
My uncle downed a doe in the middle of the field. It was full of heavy grass about a foot tall or so. My Dad and uncle placed the rifles laying down close by. As the truck was driving up my uncle says to "go stand on the rifles so the truck doesn't run over them." So I walked over tripped on some grass or weeds and kinda tumble fell over the rifles. His reply "I didn't mean actually stand on the rifles"

Me and my buddy set our bows down while tracking a deer in the dark in the middle of the woods, that took some time retracing our steps to find them

Didn't take off my release when wiping.  Damn thing dangled too low and got what you could call a little dirty.  Of course I didn't notice for a bit until I wondered why the stink was following me.

I now have a release that folds back out of the way,  I haven't had to do real test yet but based on my simulations it should be all clear.

I was able to clean it good enough to suit me with some grass and a puddle but when I met back up with my oldest boy I was tempted to swap him releases since he did like mine better.  I didn't have the heart to do that to my own kid but would have done it to a buddy in a second.

I was using a shot gun i wasn't familiar with, a semi-auto 12 gauge. we were turkey hunting and i accidnetly hit the thing for the action to spring open, right when we had a bunch of hens come in on us and calling like mad. spooked them all. my only time turkey hunting. was pretty crappy.
Lick it and make it official.

Well, my brother was drying his boots next to the fire in the high country. Well, when he woke up, the left one was melted and he had to hike out with 4 pairs of socks on and no boot. And for me. I launched my boat at Lk Sawyer. And when I backed it down, my rope that was tied to the neck of the trailer. Wasn't tied up. I sent my 19ft Alumaweld about 50 yrs out in the water. I had to swim out there to get it. Mind you it was the first part of May. I was so tried when I got to the boat, that I couldn't pull myself up. So I grabbed the rope and swam back with boat in tow.  :bash:

Went hunting and a buddy thought it'd be cool for me to try out his new rifle and said it's fine and works with no problems and I believed him. :bdid:  Came over this little hill and it leveled out to reveal about 9 does and 1 nice buck   I put the cross hairs on him and click! :bash:   that spooked the lead doe and she hightailed it and the buck started moving right in the middle of them all up hill. :bash:  Never doing that again and man did he hear it from me. >:(   Put in alot of miles after that and the feet hurt and didn't see that buck or anything bigger than a 2 point after that the next 2 trips... :bash: :bash: :bash:

I posted this before the crash and wasn't going to re-post, but maybe it'll save a life. Who knows?

I was pheasant hunting for the first time with a good buddy of mine. I was using a pump. A bird flushed out in front of us. I shot and missed and swung to the left and pulled the trigger, putting the muzzle right on my bud's head. I hadn't completely engaged the pump for the second shot and it didn't fire. I completely lost track of my field of fire and almost killed my friend. I was very lucky that day.

Took my gun with me while I was "the camera guy" on a hunt. (Not something I normally did) On our last spot we ended up sitting and watching a cut for about two hours, when it got to dark to film we walked out to the truck (about two miles is all). Got to the truck and realized I left my gun back in the cut leaning against a stump  :bash: I had the camera though  :chuckle: The walk back to get it seemed LONGER  :chuckle: .

Shot at a big buck with 20 gauge slugs 8 times before I killed him, I thought that shotguns were so slow that you had to arch the bullets at 50 yards. I was wrong lol, and 15.

I found an arrow with a broadhead on it while out hunting.  I threw it in the back of my truck not thinking anything about it.  About a week earlier i had a flat and when i had the tire fixed i was too lazy to put the spare back under the bed. about a mile down the road i hit a pothole and heard the sound of air leaving my spare tire.  The tire had bounced up in the air and landed on the broadhead.  No big deal right? How often do you get flat tires?  I didn't go another mile and had flat.  I was about 12 miles from chewelah so i ripped a nail out of a fence post and jammed it into the hole in the tire.  It didn't stay in long so i cut a green bow off a pine sapling and jammed it into the hole.  I was dead broke so i had to drive all the way to schwabs in Deer Park so i could put a tire on my credit.  The plug stayed in even gong 50+ on 395.  The guys at schwabs started laughing and said they had never seen anything like it.

This didn't happen afield but when i was 19 I spent my college tuition money on a Model 70 chambered in 270 win.  I had to take an emergency loan so my parents wouldn't kill me.  I also had to take on two jobs to pay off the 90 day loan so i wouldn't get kicked out of school.  Working 8-12 hours a day and full credits was tough.  I took a lot of risks back then.  Since then i have taken 7 mule deer, 1 black bear, tons of coyotes, and a few forest grouse with that rifle.
