Had a great opening morning/day. Called in a group right out of there roost but the tom stayed in the back at about 50 yards. A little bit out of my range on a turkey. Then I went to one of my favorite spots to hunt. It is a strutting zone that most of the time has a dominant bird in it. As I started down the side hill. I saw a tom and some hens down on the bench below and snuck down into position. He was about 100 yards away when I started calling, he was on the back side of a little hill. The top of the hill was 35 yard from me. I was able to tuck into a brush pile to hide and conceal my draw. After sweet talking for about 10 minutes. I saw his fan tips coming over the hill. I drew and waited for him to come over the hill. Just as I was getting ready to shoot a hen walk up behind him and I had to hold and wait for her to clear. He turned and quartered away from me at 34 yards and I let it fly. Arrow flew like a dart and crumpled him on impact.
My biggest bodied tom for sure! I never put a bird on the scale but decided I had to with this bird. He came in at 21.5 on my scale, beard right at 8.5". He had his hooks wore down pretty good. Nice beautiful mature tom.
