Move this site to different server
« on: July 19, 2007, 08:36:53 PM »
We're pretty much growing enough where I have decided as well as the performance of this board... that we should move to a new server. The performance of the one which we are hosted on today is not quite up to speed for the amount of traffic we are generating these days. The truth is that I never expected to generate this much traffic so soon since the site came online.

The advantage of acting on this sooner rather than later is that we can get it all done before hunting season hits.

What this will mean is that I will have to schedule a day for this site and board to be offline. I am guessing after talking with the hosting company this morning that we might be able to do it by next Wednesday. I might even try to get it done on Sunday evening.

So if we go offline for a day we should be back online after that. I'll try to keep you up to date as I get closer to making a deal.

Sounds like a good thing.

My only question is where will everyone go to find out about the permit draw? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

This should be a good thing. Our site will be on it's own server all by itself.

To be honest if I can coordinate how I would like the board down time might be less than an hour. But I am not promising that at all.

From what I understand the permit draw was done at 5:00

Hunt,
Sounds good. I am an IT security specialist and understand about the need to move to a better server. Good idea doing it now rather than later. That is good business continuity planing.

Folks I am getting close to the migration time. I was told by the hosts that the migration to the new server could take 16-24 hours to propagate on the internet once it is initiated.

What that means is once I tell them we are ready I plan to shut off the boards for 24 hours to meet these needs. Otherwise I cannot guarantee we will not lose some posts and usernames. I am sorry for the inconvenience but this should be a one time shot.

I have already migrated a lot of the items to the new server but will continue blasting away. I anticipate that some time tomorrow I might be ready for them to pull the trigger. I am not sure just yet though.

Just keeping you up to date...

Is this like the permit drawing? Will we have to wait again at the end of the week? LOL

Seems to have gone well. Good job.
