Get him the snake bite shot at the vet and end all worries.
thats, bull. I have ran into rattlesnakes (big ones) all the way up to 5,000 ft. at this time of the yr. !! And there out now... 1) West side guys= easy pray, answer = stick with Black tails2)West side dogs= easier pray, = dont let him out on the east side of the hills.3)If you must tread over here in your Birkenstocks, bring a sturdy hiking stick and pound it when your hiking around, they will get out of your way.... 4)As for the dog, find a bull snake and put the dog in a big pen with the snake, or a room and let him get bit a few times, you will notice him staying away after a few bites... then he will know what snakes are about and he will most likely keep his distance at least.....
get your dog 'snake-proofed'. Couple dog trainers each year will offer it. I keep meaning to do it, but don't run my dogs in snake country during this time of year. In the fall/winter there is little concern.
