SB 1221 and HSUS Efforts To Ban Hunting Across America
« on: April 24, 2012, 01:31:27 PM »
This refers to a bill currently (today) being debated in California, but I think it's important that everyone understand what the Humane Society of the United States (aka HSUS)  is up to.

SB 1221, introduced by state Senator Ted Lieu (D-28), would ban hunting bears and bobcats with dogs.  Hunting with dogs is a tradition that continues to be practiced across the country. Many dog breeds with select characteristics for hunting can be traced back for thousands of years.  Seventeen states allow bear hunting with dogs.  The use of hounds for hunting has never been shown to have an adverse impact on wildlife numbers as biologists and wildlife experts direct regulations and bag limits just as they do with other hunting seasons.

SB 1221 is supported by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) – a group that supports banning all hunting with or without dogs.  Its President, Wayne Pacelle, has been quoted as saying: “We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States … We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state.”

In 2003, HSUS unsuccessfully championed California Assembly Bill 342 that would have banned all hunting with hounds.  They now seem to be taking a deceptive and incremental approach to accomplish the same goal via SB 1221.  Don’t let anti-hunting extremists remove another traditional form of hunting.*******

You can learn more about this group and what they're up to at Humane Watch,  a watchdog (pardon the pun!) site (www://humanewatch.org)

They're not what they say they are.

I cannot believe it passed the committee.  I'm so disgusted with those groups.  We need to keep fighting this one through the Senate.

This is just an extension of no hound hunting cougars in Cali Right??? This is the incremental demise of rights by those who hate freedom.  :twocents:

Indeed, it's a neverending, billowing firehose of asinine legislation slowly chipping away at this Nation.

Important to note that the HSUS is doing a lot of this under the guise of helping animal shelters. They show commercials all over television and billboards, begging for money and using poor little abused dogs and cats to do it. They donate less than ONE PERCENT of that money to shelters and the rest goes toward infringing on our rights.  It's quite clear, based on statements made by their dear leader, that they intend to ban hunting all over America.

I'm an avid animal lover.  I Love my dog as if he's my child, and I would do just about anything for him.  I believe in helping animals and punishing those responsible for abusing and/or neglecting them.  But for the HSUS to use these poor animals to deceive the American public into funding their schemes makes me furious.  People need to be informed that, if they feel the need to help shelters for abused animals, PLEASE do it directly and NOT through the so-called "Humane SOciety Of The United States."  Their money is being used to infringe on our rights. Support local shelters if you are able to, but do some research and find out where they're putting that money.

Mabey the NRA should start shelters and actually run them for what there supposed to be for if its true they only use one percent to fund the shelters now imagine what 100% would do for actually helping the dogs and cats that are lost or abandoned plus it would be great for p.r. If they put them out of business that would hurt there campaigns

It's a great idea, but I can smell the glassy eyeds, accusing the NRA of using them for target practice or some other horrid accusation.  The NRA would be using much of their proceeds fighting lawsuits from the likes of HSUS and the rest of those deceptive cretins.

I always research the facility and find out where they use their proceeds.  One can also volunteer time.... perhaps doing the books.

WOW!
I guess it makes sence then that they have had many cougar attacks over the years... I thought it was just from no hound hunting.

Those two cats in my profile pic were from Northern CA.  They were stalking me while I was out for a hike one day.  Fortunately, I was prepared and it happened back in the early '80's.   No telling what would have happened to me had it been after they got so busy banning self defense down there.
