new to bow hunting

i want to get into bow hunting this and i want to know about your what would be a good compound bow for starting i hunt westside for deer bear and elk i have been huntung for 6 years for modern and i am very interested in bow hunting

Everyone will answer this question different because most are stuck to the brand they shoot for different reasons.

I would say visit your local archery shops and shoot the different brands and find a bow that fits you and your need. Most proshops are very helpful!

My advice is to not be too good for a starter bow. Don't think you have to get caught up in a speed contest with your first bow. Some of those new dual cam bows are very unforgiving as far as letoff goes.

Im still hunting with my first setup that was used when I bought it. Its a six.year old bow. I can generally outshoot my main bow hunting partner who is very proud that his $1,000 bow shoots 340fps and mine only shoots 257fps. I guess a miss with a .45 is better than a hit with a 9mm 

I would buy used if you're not made of money and have the patience to wait for a good deal on a bow that will fit you well. I have also been happy shooting cheaper arrows as Im not afraid to loose and break 'em at practice, which you will do  a lot of when youre learning the ropes.

Great northwest archery on the south hill puyallup, off shaw road. Then there is sportco, wholesale sports and sportsmen warehouse. If you travel farther south you have lucky shot and xxx archery. Go to any of those listed you should be alright. IMO I would steer clear of rainier archery in Graham. Get what you like, that is in your price range and look at reviews for a companies reputation, I.e how they handle warranty issues, etc.

Just to be clear for someone new to archery even though some bows may have an ibo speed of 340 fps doesn't mean you will come even close to that for hunting. It will depend what your draw length is, arrow weight and accessories on your string. Average draw length is probably between 28-29". Your looking at a arrow velocity of between 250-290 fps in Washington approximately depending on variables.

  His setup is not even close to 340fps. Like said that is the ibo on the bow. I would bet if he is shooting a legal arrow he would be around 290fps if he has a avg draw of 28"

Those new 1000 $ carbon deals don't shoot higher than 300 at Washington hunt weight???  I figured for that price the ibo would be close to 400 with a 31" draw 70 lbs and six grains per "   I know if it says 350 it means 250 for hunt weight in wa.

 My bows IBO   is 310 and I.think the main reason I only get 257 fps (using his same clock) is because I am a cheap *censored* and there's nothin.greater.than the look on his face when I have a consistent grapefuit sized group at 40 yards  with my $5 arrows and he's all ovet the map with his $12 arrows. but hey, they're fast

I want you to ask him what his setup is. I have spent a lot of time around bows "a few friends own that bow and I have put more then a few arrows threw a monster myself" and I don't think there is any way he is hitting 340. The ibo on that bow was 360. Did you see the numbers yourself? Unless he is shooting a arrow that is so light and dangerous to be shooting or he is shooting like 30" at 80lbs I don't see how 340 would be possible.

The best bow for you to start with is one you can afford to buy lots of arrows for and that fits you properly.  Don't worry about brand, model or speed to start.  Only thing you need to worry about right now is getting one fit properly for you and getting comfortable shooting it.  If you find you really enjoy the sport there will be plenty of time to enter the brand war later.

My best advise:  Don't ever shoot through a chrony with your bow.  You'll never shoot fast enough to overcome the disappointment.

31" at 70 lb draw weight at 5 grains per inch will produce the ibo speed bows advertise.  Add 1 grain per inch to be legal in wa to hunt and you should only loose 30 fps or so.  If he's right at weight and nothing else changes from ibo standards..... I believe it.  Post a pic of the clock reading.

All right! I'm being ' called out.'

His arrows are cut pretty short. I think his draw is 29 and hes up to 80 lbs. We don't live in wa so the laws may be different. I'll try to shoot with him next week and post up a few pics. Do we have a "Biggest C*ck" forum  or should I just post it up here?

also, no law exists that says you cannot shoot as light an arrow as you want at targets. i have no problem believing that a person could get 340 out of a monster at or near IBO specs.
take a look at what a few guys are shooting for 3d. i am shooting 318 for 3d with a botw that ibo's at 328. i have shot a bow at 335 that ibo's at 343, etc...
