Opening weekend report
« on: August 04, 2008, 08:29:36 AM »
Not a whole lot of action for us this weekend.  We hunted the area around our property in the Huckleberry.  We have seen numerous bears in the area the past few months, but not able to get at them this week.

This is a shot of the area we hunted

And another

At this spot on Saturday Evening, we were surrounded by both Coyotes and Moose.  We sat until well after dark hoping to see them.  My daughter has never seen a live moose, so she really wanted to see on step out.  They called all around us, but never came to the clearing edges.

These are pics of my best hunting buddy.  She is 15 and just getting back to hunting with her daddy.

looking over a draw where we found some berries.

Realizing her dad was taking her picture.

Here is some of the sign we found.  This pile is full of berries and fur.  For scale I placed my 6" Blackhawk 357.

Saw tons of deer, lots of fawns and quite a few velvet bucks waiting for me to come get them on October.
This little guy was thinking he was invisible.

Finally, a long shot of another area.  That is Lake Roosevelt off in the distance.

All in all a great 3 day trip.  Will hit it again in a week or so and see if the bears cooperate.

Thanks.  I love that she wants to go.

Needed you to call them damn Coyotes for me.  I could not get them to come in!  I am surprised that the moose kept right on calling and walking through the brush with the coyotes sounding off on the other edge of the field.
Had one moose walking a short distance behind me sounding like a freight train walking through the thick stuff.  He bellowed and scared the crap out of my daughter. :chuckle:
