Neck sizing only?
«

Is it OK to just neck size the brass for a lever gun? I neck size my bolt rifle brass if I’m only shooting it in the same rifle but I’ve read conflicting views on doing so for lever actions. Full length sizing my 30/30 brass is dimpling the shoulders and I’m having to toss the brass after 1 or 2 loadings.

Sounds like you may have a simple case of tooooo much case lube. Are you using a spray or lube on a pad?

Just smear it on with a Q-tip or my fingers.

Yep, good call. The lube has built up in this die and is dimpling the shoulder. My other dies have a relief hole that extra lube can squeeze through. Why this one doesn't I don't know.

No worries, they will just "shoot out" when you fire them, without even noticing, as to neck sizing brass for a lever gun, may I ask why you would want too??
More accuracy?
You stick a case in a lever gun, it ain't so easy to pull it out.

It's just easier and the full length sizing seems hard on the thin 30/30 brass.

Just cut down on the lube. And just lube every other case . I have done this for years.

I've never had this problem with 30-30's but I sure used to have this problem loading for my .300 Win Mag. That caliber was very sensitive to the amount of case lube, too much (and it didn't take much to be too much) and it would trash the shoulder area....like someone else suggested, I ended up having to put a little lube on my fingertips and apply very sparingly. Forget the case lube pad for that caliber....
Very accurate gun/caliber, but it was a PITA to load for...
