Lings around Solo Point
« on: May 02, 2012, 05:54:32 PM »
Anyone had any luck catching lings around the solo point area? Looking to go out but not wanting to travel to far yet.

there's a launch there but im pretty sure you gotta have DOD decals to use the area. But don't quote me on that.

You have to have DOD stickers to use the Solo Point launch. The launch at the Steilacoom ferry dock is pretty shallow. Usually have to put my truck in the water to get deep enough for a 17ft aluminum boat to come off the trailer. As for the lings around there, no big pockets unless you go up to Toliva. Not saying there aren't any, just be prepared for alot of searching.

The other thing to watch at Steilacoom is you launch under the railroad bridge if I recall so can't come or go at too high of a tide depending on your boat height.  I launched our 21' Trophy there years back w/o a problem though.

Some may disagree with this, but I have been told otherwise.  You can use a range pass to gain access to Solo Point. Been told that both times we called the number on the sign out by the main road.

The last time I called was about 5-6 uears ago and they said no. Glad to see they allow it now, use to do it with no pass in the 70's and 80's.

Dont have the number with me. I will check the next time I drive by. But it's on the sign marking Solo point when you turn off the main road.

I wanted to make sure so we called twice on seperate days in an attempt to get different people to say the same thing.  They did. We had no problems using it last year.
