Best thing to do for break in's is leave your vehicle unlocked, place a $5 bill on the seat in full view. Saves a window atleast, most break ins are from meth heads and $5 is enough to keep them high for another day.
Not sure what the answer is for just plain vandal's , Most likely someone you know that doesn't like you tho :twocents:

I have never had problems w/ 2 legged vandals, but have had Porcupines chew the electrical wire one time. I have seen rigs that have had chicken wire around the vehicle when going in for several days. This was in the enchantments

I have a pre-printed note I stick in the window.

It reads:

"Dad, I'm just up the hill where I can see the truck. I will come down when I see you back at the truck"

I have sat way up on a hill where I could see our truck and watched people stop next to it, read the note and haul butt.  :chuckle:
Be funny if 5 rigs at the trailhead had the same note.  :chuckle:

That is a great idea by-the-way

Jeepasaurus-  - good call on the note.. I did something similar in the snoq pass area, seemed to work. Watched one rig drive slow past and move on.

I have had some bad luck.. 1 window broke over the years (left the car locked with a sleeping bag in the back) and I've had the car gone through a few times when left unlocked.

For high buck I leave nothing in there of value. I've thought of laying out some condoms on the seats just to discourage browsing.

A rumor that went around was that there was a pretty organized group that was specifically targetting high end gear not just dash board change etc. I leave nothing in there except some extra food and warm clothes and a bit of emergency gear (harbor freight quality tools etc)

I was up in Packwood hunting one of my wilderness spots and we had our gas siphoned out of our jeep, no locking gas cap. But other than that no one has messed with my rigs.

Once I gave a guy my tow receiver, they had packed up camp and went to hook up the truck when they realized someone had stolen theirs.

I've heard about variations of that,  just up the road target shooting...etc :chuckle:

That note idea is a sheer brillance, or a note saying " Ill be back soon, just left the rig", I've personally never had any issues and I've left my rig in a spot for many a days. One day while scouting I did come out to find four individuals from south of the border looking around my truck, I've never been so thankful for my 10mm  and even more thankful that I didn't have to use it They saw me coming and quickly jumped into their van and boogied, puckered my you know what.

When I was little one of Moms friends parked way up somewhere, some wide spot on a logging road and went bushwhacking all day.  She came back to find 100+ bullet holes in her car.  It was an old beater, she figured someone took it for abandoned  :dunno:

I heard the $$ on the seat too.  I used to know a guy with soft top Vette. He left a note saying it was unlocked, please don't cut the roof..

I have always thought about putting up a trail camera covering my vehicle "just in case"  :mgun2:

Me and my buddy were parked at harlen landing in the gap between Yakima and selah and we were now fishing a private lake when my buddy spotted a guy peeking around a bush down the road, by the time we got back to his car they stole the radio and broke the done light and the visors. This was all in broad day light, other than that I've only ever had my gas stolen.
