PSE Omen
« on: May 06, 2012, 04:06:31 PM »
Any one own or shoot the  Omen? A local guy is selling a 2010  Omen and I'm going to check it out. Ive never shot a dual cam bow before. This would be for hunting and not competition. One specific question is whether it is pointless  to get a bow like this if I want to keep being a cheap *censored* and buying inexpensive arrows. The ones I use now ($5 Easton Storms) have always grouped well for me, but some people have told me I would pick up more speed if I bought more expensive.arrows.

Only bow I've ever owned is a PSE Mach X and I've been happy with it. I've heard some of these newer speed bows are a bit more unforgiving if you have to draw and hold or move say the animal turns suddenly or something. Any comments welcome. Thanks guys.  :hello:

The speed bows allow you to shoot heavier arrows which is good but to much speed may affect arrow flight with fixed broadheads in a bad way.  I keep my bow speed at 270 455gr or 285ish with 100gr for deer.  If I go to 85gr broadheads arrows dont group well with brdheads.  So sure it will wack em good with heavier arrows. Ive not shot omen so others can chime in there.
MAGA!  Again..

I have been a big pse buff but love my x-force 10x more then the omen. I do not like a bow with a super short brace like the omen and monster. Great speed bows but not the most forgiving. Still a solid bow.

I just received my new PSE Dream Season Evo which is close to the Omen. It is the first bow with a 6" brace height I have shot. I am in the process of tuning it when I get a chance to shoot. It has been a little more difficult so far to tune than my older PSE with a 7" BH but I'm sure I will get it shooting darts soon.

As far as arrows go, I have been shooting the Easton Axis Infused for the last couple of years and have loved them. I purchased the Easton FMJ's for my new bow because they are heavier and I'm now shooting 70# instread of 60#. I would go with a quality arrow for such a speed bow. I believe the Omen has an even shorter BH so you want to shoot some quality out of that bow...MHO :)

Yeah they are close but still not the same. The evo is a better all around bow then the omen. Smoother and does not have the whicked wall that the omen has. You should be happy with your evo

Well I shot both the Omen and the Evo today. The Evo sure is.smoother. Feels a lot like my Mach X. The Omen definitely has.that noticeable speed bump in getting over the wall. Amazing that the.design is two years old and its still the fastest out there. It was more forgiving at draw than I thought it would be. Guy is asking.$700 for it but Im sure he will take less. Im thinking I should shoot.a few more out there just to make sure there's nothing Im missing.

Yeah you should be able to get that bow for less then that. Check out what they are going for on ebay. I don't know the acc on it but unless they are super high end stuff you should be able to get it down on price. You are spot on with my thoughts after shooting both. The evo is my pick as well but there is nothing wrong with the omen to me other then I hate short brace heights.

I visited the PSE headquarters and lurked on some other forums. From the rumor and gossip mill I get the impression that this bow was created simply to one-up Matthews' Monster. Maybe Pete Scheply just wanted a product to serve as brand advertising.

There is a lot of die hard matthews guys that will say that. The monster was a lot like the x force in cam design. It came out after the x force and was matthews follow up to pse x force. Then the tides turned again when they built the omen to become the fastest again. So in all reality it was more matthews trying to one up pse after there new cam design and then pse came back and slapped matthews in the face :chuckle: THAT SAYING CATCH US IF YOU CAN! Does not work very well when you are slower then the other bow :chuckle: :chuckle:

The x force setup a lot of change in many compaines in my mind. Look at the bows from matthews and bowtech after the x force hit the market and you will see where they jumped into the new cam style.

IMHO, you can't go wrong with any of the X-Force series bows. Before I purchased my EVO I shot all kinds of bows, I originally wanted to OMEN. After shooting it, I didn't think it was the best fit for hunting with. If you just shoot target I think it would be hands down. It has a large hump to get over in the draw cycle and the Valley is very minimal. The speed is amazing but very radical at the shot, no room for error. If its about $ I would look on ebay and try to pick up an EVO. The Bowtech invasion was also a great shooting bow with a 7"BH with the same IBO as the Evo. The only thing I didn't like about the Invasion was that it was their new design and didn't have a lot of field reviews at that time. PSE as been on top of the market with their XFORCE series bows for years now.
A bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work.
